Rode along the tracks today and found myself at a place I hadn’t seen in years. In my younger days, we used to kayak out here and jump off this trestle.

Funny how a place can instantly bring back a lifetime of memories. A little older now… and perfectly happy staying on the bike instead of jumping off the bridge. 😂🚲

I think there are actually two different kinds of photography colliding here. There’s photography as documentation — “I want a picture of this moment, and I want it now.” A phone is incredibly good at satisfying that. Then there’s photography as art — choosing the crop, shaping the light, deciding what the colors should feel like, drawing attention to certain details, removing distractions. That’s the part I enjoy.

And maybe the takeaway isn’t “don’t impose your creative choices on others” so much as “don’t measure the value of your creative choices by whether everyone else prefers them.”

Someone preferring the unedited-looking phone shot doesn’t necessarily mean your edit was bad. They may simply want something different from the photograph than you do.
