Five families. Five states. One dream campaign.

In 2019, I was commissioned by The Foundry to photograph a national campaign for Similac x Parents.com; traveling across the U.S. to capture five influencer families and tell their real-life parenting and formula-feeding stories through natural, lifestyle imagery.

What I loved most about this project was that it still felt so much like the work I love creating every day: real families, real connection, and beautiful light. The goal was to capture natural moments that made the campaign feel lived-in and authentic rather than overly produced, highlighting the unique stories of each family who trusted Similac with their babies.

This was photographed pre-COVID, which feels like another lifetime now! I’ve loved watching each of these babies grow up through Instagram over the years… which has me thinking, I need to plan a follow-up “Where Are They Now?” shoot with everyone, right?!

Birthday week felt like a good excuse for a little re-introduction. 🤍 I’m Michelle, an NYC-based family photographer, founder of the all-female photo team Briar Rose Photo Co. | NYC Family Photographers, former magazine photo editor, newlywed (happy one month, Chris !), mama-to-be (due in January!), cat mom to Harleigh, and the woman behind two photography businesses.

But this year feels especially different.

I got married. I’m growing a baby girl. I’m preparing to step away from shooting for a few months for the first time in… basically ever. 😂 And somehow, I’m also squeezing in one of the busiest fall seasons of my career before I do.

So whether you’ve been here for all 10 years I’ve been in business or found me somewhere along the way recently, hi!! I’m really happy you’re here.

Mama Monday 🤍 Meet Brooke Brooke Jacobsen Lessinger is a longtime client, mom of 2, TV producer, four-time Emmy winner (!!), and one of the people I always love catching up with between photos.

Over the years I’ve photographed so many different seasons of her family. We’ve had lots of laughs and a few hilarious, slightly less-than-picture-perfect moments between snaps. You’ll have to read about those in her post. 😂 Somehow, those moments always end up giving us some of my favorite images.

I bought my wedding dress a size bigger.
I knew my body was going to keep changing, so I wanted room for the bump instead of stressing about fitting into a specific size. Kleinfeld Bridal helped make sure everything fit perfectly by the wedding day.

I Hired glam artists I completely trusted.
I wanted to feel like the absolute best version of myself. Having hair + makeup artists I already knew, trusted AND get to call friends made such a difference. Plus, they both happen to be incredibly talented celebrity artists. 🤍

I kept my skincare + facials gentle.
I stuck with products I personally felt comfortable using during pregnancy from Y𝐼SE BEAUTY + Amberlight Beauty , lots of gua sha, two DiamondGlow facials at The Brightwood and a buccal facial at Sage + Sound. The goal was simple: glowy, refreshed and nothing too aggressive.

I skipped “shedding for the wedding.”
Absolutely no crash dieting over here. 😂 I worked with Virtual/ In-Studio Personal Trainer 🏋🏼‍♀️/ Cara D’Orazio twice a week on strength, cut back on sweets + carbs for about a month and limited salt the week before the wedding. The goal was feeling good, not getting smaller.

September recap! Arguably the best month of my year… but I’m a little biased, and I think you know why. 🤍

Nestled between shoots, I got married!!! Who else is a September bride?!

September went by in a flash. After such a busy August in the Hamptons, it was so nice to come back home and settle into NYC, NJ and lots of CT sessions.

November + December sessions are booking now before maternity leave. I still have a few spots left before I officially slow things down. Your kids do not need to “perform” for family photos. 🤍

Some of my favorite images happen when they’re moving, laughing, being silly, exploring, or doing literally anything other than sitting perfectly still for the camera.

My job is to meet them where they are, keep things moving, and photograph the little moments in between that actually feel like them.

So if you’re worried your kids won’t cooperate for photos… please don’t be. That’s usually when the magic happens!!! ✨
