Yesterday by happenstance I found myself on the ferry headed for a meeting on Staten Island. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take this shot of the southern tip of Manhattan as we were pulling away.

The Flatiron building on the junction of 23rd street and Broadway and 5th Avenues is one of my favorite buildings in Manhattan. Built in 1902 and designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham it was one of New York's early skyscrapers and it's unique triangular footprint has become a city icon and favorite of tourists. Lately my work takes me to the area often so I decided to take a shot of it. You can read more about it here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatiron_Building

It's not Kodachrome but I'll take it. I still have all my film cameras. I can't wait to take my Pentax spotmatic out of mothballs and I still have my slide scanners to digitize them. I can scan a slide up to 75 megapixels with no loss in detail.

Kodak Alaris said it is bringing back its famous Ektachrome film in late 2017. (Courtesy of Kodak Alaris) Film photography has faded so swiftly that it can be hard to recall a time before digital photos. Two decades ago Eastman Kodak was selling a billion rolls of film a year. Another film giant, Po...

This building is on the corner of 8th Avenue and 56th street in Manhattan. Known as the Hearst building. The shot is a combination of several frames taken and combined in Photoshop as there isn't a wide angle lens to take it all in one shot. I had to adjust each frame to account for the tremendous barrel distortion in an iPhone.

Earlier as I was walking around the neighborhood I came across what I though was a vegetarian food booth. It took me a minute to realize it was the entrance to a staircase that led to a restaurant in the basement of the local Budhist Temple.

Today I took the day off from work. I didn't feel well in the morning so I decided if I was going to be miserable it may as well be at home. A bit after mid day as I felt better I decided to take a walk along 8th Avenue in my nabe Brooklyn's Chinatown also known as Sunset Park. As I was walking along I noticed a gentleman with a rather unusual camera so I went up and asked him about. Turned out it was a custom job designed to shoot 120 film. Turned out that the person I was speaking to was Thomas Roma a professor of photography at Columbia University School of Visual Arts. He told me that he was a published author and told me to check out his website at http://thomasroma.com . We talked about photography and he told me all his work is in Black and White and develops his film the old fashioned way in his darkroom. You can also check out his page at Columbia at http://arts.columbia.edu/visual-arts/faculty/thomas-roma .

Last Friday I sat at a bench in Herald Square that I occasionally sit on to have a smoke. On most days I generally look at the passers by and the goings on on the sidewalk. This day I decided however to look up for some reason and discovered I had a particular angle on the Empire State building and it's antenna. To think, this was the tallest building in the world when I came to New York in 1962.

Earlier today on my way home I had a chance encounter at Bryant Park in Manhattan with famed New York street photographer Louis Mendes and his iconic Speed Graphic camera. We talked about photography and he gave me some pointers on the most important subject of all. How to make money with your camera. He let me take a snapshot so I could post it here. You can read more about him at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Mendes

Earlier today I had to be by Church street in downtown Manhattan. As the sun was setting the rays were striking the roof of this odd building with the Freedom Tower in the background. I wish I had regular camera with me. So I did the best I could with my iPhone...
