Oh 2024…what a year. As you can see, it started out GREAT; made some amazing new friends, started a new hobby 💃, got bangs, traveled a bit (Barcelona for fun, Denver for fam), my best friends got married, played lots of board games, MADE a board game for our nieces and nephews, took a pottery class, got a beast of an espresso machine and worked a bunch of amazing weddings of the most incredible couples and worked with incredible photographers & videographers!
And then October hit and sh*t hit the fan. For those who don’t know, my husband, Dan, was rushed to the ER because half his face wasn’t working due to a sudden case of Bell’s Palsy. Unfortunately, the diagnosis didn’t end there, it was in fact a sign of a much more serious diagnosis; acute monocytic leukemia (AML). We were in the hospital for a month as he immediately started chemotherapy and was continually monitored as he reacted to both the illness and the chemo. Then, he contracted RSV and had to be transferred to an isolation room. Between the violent coughs, fevers, a loss of appetite that lead to him losing over 30lbs, the many many procedures he had to endure (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, echocardiogram, lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies, you name it) and losing all his hair, it’s been hellish…Luckily the treatment worked as well as it could have and he has been in consolidation since. We’re home now and go to the hospital every other day to monitor his counts, do further testing, and make sure he gets any blood or medication he needs (which sometimes takes the whole day).
And then, to make things even worse, one of our cats, Aella, passed away suddenly from an unknown illness (most likely neurological). A punch in the gut while we were already at rock bottom😔. We buried her in the backyard before going back to the hospital for a high dose of consolidation chemotherapy as an inpatient for 4 days in mid December.
