My photography is changing, and I’m really excited about where it’s going. 🤎
The more I photograph families, the more I realize take my favorite images are rarely the ones where everyone is standing perfectly, looking at the camera smiling.
They’re the ones in between.
The belly laughs we get out of the kiddos mid tickle fight. The little hands reaching out for momma. Dad throwing a kiddo over his shoulder. The dirty knees. The toddler who absolutely refuses to participate but somehow ends up giving us the BEST pictures of the entire session.
That’s what I want more of.
I want my sessions to feel less like “Okay everyone, stand here and smile!” And more like spending an evening together as a family, with me there to document it.
Maybe we grab ice cream and walk downtown. Maybe we splash each other barefoot in the river. Maybe we have a picnic, make pancakes at home, play at the park on the monkey bars, ride bikes, roast marshmallows, explore somewhere new, or just do something your family genuinely loves doing together.
I’ll still guide you. I’ll still give you prompts, help with placement, find beautiful light and make sure we get those photos Grandma wants for her wall.
But I don’t want your entire session stuffed with stress, stiff awkward limbs, and making your children behave for the camera.
I WANT them to PLAY!
I WANT them to be SILLY!
I want you to scoop them up, chase them, tickle them, dance with them and love on them.
And if things get a little chaotic? GOOD.
Because someday, that chaos is going to be the part you miss.
I’m also letting go of the idea that every family has to show up in perfectly coordinated beige and cream outfits to have beautiful photos. Wear the color. Wear the jeans, the boots, mix your textures and patterns. Dress your kids like THEMSELVES.
I want your gallery to look like YOUR FAMILY, not a version of your family created for Pinterest.
My goal moving forward is to create photographs that are colorful, emotional, playful, a little imperfect and full of life.
Your babies are going to grow.. their little voices will change. They’ll stop reaching for your hand every time you walk somewhere. One day you wont be carrying them on your hip or wiping ice cream off their faces.
And when you see these photos pop up on your memories years from now, I want you to remember more than what everyone wore. I want you to remember how hard they laughed, how they wrapped their arms around your neck, how much fun you had together.
I don’t want to just give you pretty pictures. I want to document a piece of your family’s story.
So this is the direction I’m moving in. More connection, more movement, more color, more personality, more real, raw life.
Less perfection, more YOU.
And I can’t wait to create it.
So lets play in the rain together, have a water balloon fight, go on an ice cream date, make s'mores together while you’re camping, meet up at the rink or outside to see the skateboarding tricks with some pizza afterwards. All these moments? Take me with you. 🤎
