One thing I’ve learned as a filmmaker…

Marketing doesn’t start when the movie is finished.

It doesn’t start when the trailer drops.
It doesn’t even start when we wrap production.

It starts in pre-production.

These photos weren’t taken just to look good. They’re part of the story. Every script revision, every production meeting, every behind-the-scenes moment builds anticipation long before the first frame ever hits the screen.

That’s how I’m approaching True Colors: The Maze Within.

I’m inviting y’all into the process, not just the premiere.

I really wanted to host this big premiere for my first short film, but God had other plans with the weather.

Since I announced this project, I’ve heard every reason why I couldn’t do it, why I shouldn’t do it, and why it wouldn’t work. I’m not gonna lie, some of it almost got to me.

At one point, somebody who had never met me or spoken to me called my film a “low-budget Tubi movie.” I’ll never forget that.

I thought about doing a big virtual premiere. I thought about waiting for the perfect moment. Then I realized I was overthinking it.

If it’s meant to be seen, it’ll be seen.

This film taught me a lot. It also showed me how much I still have to learn. But more than anything, it proved to me that I can start something and finish it.

I’m proud of that.

Did you always believe you could direct a film?’

‘No. I just got tired of waiting on permission.’

Writing and directing Section 8 Royalty has been one of the biggest creative risks I’ve ever taken. Long nights, learning curves, self-doubt, problem solving… all of it became part of the process.

But seeing this story finally come to life reminds me why creating matters in the first place.
