Help people, one at a time.

Last night, the lights were on at Molly’s.

Cars in the parking lot. Laughter around a table. Food coming out of the kitchen.

But we weren’t open.

We were hosting eight people for a private chef experience we donated to a charitable event.

Standing in my kitchen, I thought about what those lights really meant.

We’ve hosted quite a few of these nights lately—donating dinners, food, time and experiences to help where we can. And we’ll keep doing it.

Because I know what it feels like to need people.

In my early 40s, I found myself without a home. I didn’t have much, but I had people.

Friends. Family. Even strangers.

A couch. A spare bed. A hand when mine wasn’t quite strong enough.

Asking for help is hard. Admitting you need it can be even harder. But that chapter taught me something I’ve never forgotten:

Stuff can disappear in a second. People are what bring you back.

Maybe that’s why feeding people means so much to me.

Food is how I love. How I comfort. How I celebrate, grieve, gather and care for people. And when a plate of food becomes something bigger—a fundraiser, a helping hand, a little hope—it becomes incredibly powerful.

Life can change in seconds. Illness. A fire. A death. An accident. A lost job. Something nobody saw coming.

Any of us could someday be the person needing the hand instead of extending it.

So I want the light at Molly’s to mean something.

We’re working on a way for our community to nominate someone who could use a little help. Once a month, we want to choose someone and simply ask:

What can we do?

Maybe it’s a meal. Maybe it’s something completely different.

We’ve given a lot this year, and we’ll keep giving what we can.

Because the need doesn’t stop.

So neither can the giving.

And as long as I’m able, my light will be on. ❤️
