Whenever someone reaches out for EOL photography for a pet, it's probably one of my favorite sessions to offer.
Marissa reached out for her father Chris' cat, Lola, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Unfortunately for Lola, there is not really anything that can be done, other than make sure she's comfortable and loved.
So on a Sunday, I met with Chris, his family and Lola. This was a first for me photographing a cat, and not surprisingly Lola seemed to be unbothered by my presence! But I always make sure to take it at my subjects pace and she was wonderfully tolerant but once she had enough, she trotted upstairs. But not before gracing all of us with her presence on the balcony for a few last photos and as if to bid me farewell.
Sometimes I don't know what is tougher, knowing what is coming or in my case, it all happening in a whirlwind. It's either you don't get a chance to process your pet's passing, or it's all just a thousand cuts.
From Chris - “I adopted her in late December 2019, just before the world shut down. When the pandemic began and I started working from home, we suddenly spent every day together, and she became my constant companion. All she ever wanted was to be close—curling up beside me for cuddles day and night. She’s the sweetest little soul, and having her by my side has made every day brighter. 🐾”
I hope your days continue to be bright as long as they can.
