The Lower Salt River, with the Verde River flowing into it, is flowing at over 70,000 cfs just a few miles from our home in Mesa, AZ. To give perspective, the river is “running very fast” in the summer when it is 1,000 cfs‼️Stewart Mountain Dam at Saguaro Lake and Bartlett Lake Dam are conducting emergency releases, and Granite Reef Dam to my left is doing the same as it releases water into Tempe and Phoenix!

The waterfalls are running in Arizona’s Sheraton Mountains after some epic rains the last few days.

Despite its name, the Hieroglyphic Trail leads to these petroglyphs, not Egyptian hieroglyphics. Carved into the desert rock by the Hohokam people roughly 900–1,500 years ago, these images of animals and geometric symbols offer a glimpse into the lives of the ancient people who called the Superstition Mountains home.

What a crazy experience to have a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake under an impending Arizona storm. Rattlers this time of year are looking for final meals before they begin “Brumation” and find a den to slow their metabolism. Brumation is a reptile’s version of hibernation, but it is less continuous and more responsive to temperature changes. They may emerge occasionally, but we usually won’t see them from November through March.

Happy Owl-o-ween! These two Great Horned Owls posed on a Mesquite stump and created a sharp silhouette against the Arizona sunset afterglow.

Arizona you’re sure showing off with your sunrises again! We are getting more much-needed rain today and again on Sunday. My MTB ride was amazing today in the green Sonoran Desert.

This Squadron of Javelinas made their way across our neighborhood street with baby “Reds” in tow. We love our little slice of Jurassic Park/Arizona!!

The Full Moon rose over Arizona’s Goldfield Mountains as the sunset finished up behind me over the East Valley of Phoenix.

And with the Coyotes howling too‼️

Peek-a-Hooo! This Burrowing Owl’s face was illuminated as he peered from his Arizona burrow.
