There are moments in wildlife photography that remind you why patience is everything.

For weeks, I hoped for an opportunity like this. Hidden quietly beneath the forest canopy was this great-horned owlet, watching the world with equal parts curiosity and caution.

Every turn of its head revealed a new expression—from sleepy blinks to piercing golden eyes that seemed to look straight through the lens. As photographers, we’re only visitors in their home, and moments like these are a privilege, never a guarantee.

This is why I love wildlife photography. It’s not just about capturing an image—it’s about witnessing a fleeting moment in the life of a wild animal and leaving without changing the story.

-One last look

Twenty-five Big Boy locomotives were originally built by the American Locomotive Company for Union Pacific to haul heavy freight over the steep grades of the Wasatch Mountains between Ogden, Utah, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. After traveling over a million miles, No. 4014 was retired in 1961 and put on display at the RailGiants Train Museum in Pomona, California. In 2013, Union Pacific reacquired the engine and moved it to Cheyenne, Wyoming, for an extensive, multi-year restoration. In May 2019, it successfully moved under its own power, once again claiming the title of the world's largest operational steam locomotive.

At one month (4 to 5 weeks) old, a Great Horned Owl owlet is roughly half the size of an adult and appears as a big, fluffy ball of downy feathers. During this rapid developmental stage, the famous "horns" (ear tufts) are not yet prominent, but their facial disks begin forming, and their flight feathers emerge
