Yesterday was a BUSY one. 😂

I worked with players from five different teams at one school — and for completely different reasons.

There was the regularly scheduled team shoot, but then we added on a couple of makeup sessions, seniors from two other teams, and even two athletes I asked to come back because I wanted to redo their portraits for the final design.

Yup. I actually asked them to come back because I wasn't quite happy with how the original images were going to work in the finished piece. And they were good sports about making the extra trip. ❤️ A big thank-you to their coaches, too, for working with me and letting the guys step away from practice for a few minutes so we could make it happen. I really appreciate the flexibility!

There's a lot more that goes into team photography than just showing up with a camera and taking pictures. Sometimes it's scheduling. Sometimes it's problem-solving. Sometimes it's looking at the finished design and realizing, I can make this better. (And those new pictures will definitely be better!)

And sometimes it's just a really, really full day. 😂

But I love that part of what I do.

When your teammate's hair has this much personality, you just have to add a bit of lightning to get the full effect. ⚡😂

I was joking with these guys during La Follette Soccer's team portraits that I could put lightning bolts coming off Jibril's hair...and then, well, I had to actually do it.

I think we may have found his superpower. 😂

(Sometimes you just have to have a little fun with Photo Day! Thanks to the guys for the fun pose!)

I have SO much to do right now, but I couldn't resist sharing a little sneak peek from Leah's Senior Experience. ❤️

As we wrapped up the prairie portion of her session, I showed Leah this dress from my client wardrobe and asked if she'd like to try it. We decided to go with a little barefoot, boho-in-the-prairie vibe—and she was totally game. 😊

I LOVE how this one turned out! And doesn't that beautiful smile just light up the whole image? ❤️

And this was just one little part of her Senior Experience. There's SO much more to share!

A new coach. A new chapter. A first home game.

Coming off a big road win last week, the Lancers are bringing that momentum home for their first game under the lights at La Follette.

Thursday night. La Follette vs. Monona Grove. Let's go, Lancers! 🏈

And I'll be there on the sidelines with my camera, so you know I'll be capturing these guys in action! 📸 Be sure to say hi if you see me!

The La Follette Football seniors have their banners! 🏈

These guys have been waiting for this moment, and I loved getting to see their reactions when they finally got to hold them up!

Good luck on Thursday, Lancers! Go get ’em! And fans, stop by their first home game on Thursday to cheer them on and check out the banners in person!

And a big thank-you to the underclassmen for helping with the reveal! 😊

A fun memory!

Sometimes you just have to let them have a little fun. 😂

I asked the guys if they wanted to do some goofy portraits, and they definitely didn't disappoint!

I love getting to see the personalities behind the uniforms — and these guys brought plenty of personality to the shoot.

La Follette Boys Volleyball, it was great to work with you again! 🏐

Who says guys can’t look cool in a field of flowers? 😄

Toward the end of Drew’s senior portrait session, I spotted this patch of flowers — and immediately noticed how perfectly the yellow picked up the color in his shirt.

So I took a chance and asked if he’d be up for a few portraits there. Honestly, I was fully expecting some version of, “Nah, I’m good.” 😂

Instead, I got, “Sure!” And I’m so glad he said yes!

Sometimes the best portraits happen when we step just a little outside the plan. I’m always watching the light, the surroundings, the colors — and looking for those little opportunities to create something that just a little bit different, but still feels like you.

And Drew? Turns out he can absolutely pull off a field of flowers, am I right??? 🌼 (Yes, of course I'm right! 🤣)

Third year with MG Boys Soccer — and this year we took things up a notch with Photo & Media Day. ⚽️

This was the first year I got to work with the whole team for individual portraits, and with the addition of social media images, the guys had a chance to show a lot more personality. And they definitely brought some originality to the posing! 😂

We even worked in a few action images — and luckily, my light survived the rogue header that accidentally went flying into it. 😉

The banners and team poster are always favorites, but I'm really loving how popular the social media images are becoming, too. They give athletes a chance to create something that's a little more them.

And this is just the beginning… stay tuned for more MG Soccer Photo & Media Day fun! 📸⚽️

Thanks, MG Boys Soccer, for having me back for year three! I always love working with you guys. (And behind-the-scenes video credit goes to Kelly...thank you!)

There is no "wrong" time of day for a Senior Portrait session. Sometimes, the time of day becomes part of what makes the portraits extraordinary.

These portraits of Becca were created around dusk. Because of timing and availability, we weren't able to do her session during the day—and that's okay. That blue-hour light was magical.

The deep blue sky, the city lights beginning to glow, the colors in the urban background, and a little intentional lighting to separate Becca from her surroundings all came together to create something that simply wouldn't have been the same in bright daylight.

And because Becca is a musician, we incorporated her flute and guitar, turning the environment, the lighting, and the things she loves into portraits that were uniquely hers.

We weren't just taking pictures of Becca. We were telling her story.

That's what I love about Senior Portraits. They're not just about finding a pretty location and taking a nice picture. They're about creating something that feels like you.

Your interests. Your personality. Your style. Your story.

Sometimes that means golden-hour sunlight. Sometimes it means blue hour and city lights. Sometimes it means something completely different.

There isn't one "right" way to do Senior Portraits. There is YOUR way.
