I've been following this nest since spring when the Osprey migrate back to East TN. I usually go to most of the eagle and osprey nest in the surrounding areas of East TN 4-5 times a week. While visiting this nest on 8/15/26, I noticed this poor osprey's leg and talons were entangled with fishing line. This being a Saturday, I knew I would have a hard time finding anyone to help on a weekend. I tried calling and leaving messages to everyone from the TVA, TWRA and TVA police in Chattanooga TN. With no avail there I went home to edit some of the pictures I had taken. I had no idea how bad this ospreys leg was, until I enlarged some of the pictures. Luckily as I was editing some pictures a message came in from Lisa at Owl Ridge Raptor Center in Washburn, TN. After discussing the situation with Lisa we decide to wait until Sunday morning to try to reach someone with the TVA again to get things started with the rescue. I was able to talk to Sara, a Wildlife Biologist with the TVA. With a group conversation on our phones we decided to meet first thing Monday morning ( 8/18/26 ). To make a long story shorter, Wes from the Owl and Raptor Rescue Center climbed to the nest, and guess what. The osprey flew away. We watched him fly probably 1000 yards, and he flew into the water. While watching him struggle to stay afloat, Lisa, Wes and two of TVA's employees were trying to think of someone close by that would have a boat or kayak to help with the rescue. We were fortunate enough that one of the TVA employees had a kayak. So we rushed to the other side of the lake and launched the kayak. I stayed in position to watch the osprey until Sara reached the osprey which was able to swim to a branch to climb on to get out of the water. What an experience!
Thanks to all that made this rescue a success. The osprey, named Weaver was taken to the Owl and Raptor Center to recover.

Pictures of the Osprey rescue today. Sorry for the blurred pictures of Sara and the Osprey at time of capture. I was standing on the edge of cliff that dropped straight off into the water with only a small opening between all the brush and trees.

Good news. This is a photo just before this Osprey was rescued this morning. The Osprey was entangled with fishing line around it's leg and talons. Thanks to Sara, a Terrestrial Biologist with the TVA, Lisa with the Owl Ridge Raptor Center, Wes, with Owl Ridge Raptor Center, and two TVA employees who helped with the rescue. Wes actually did an outdoor surgery immediately after the capture to remove the fishing line. It was an awesome experience and great team work from those I mentioned. Wes took the Osprey back to the center for further rehab. Fly high little one!
