Sweet friends, I just wanted to send out my heartfelt thank you for all the messages, gifts, gift cards, meals and just check ins I’ve received from so many of you over the last few weeks.
Never in my life did I think I would be in this season of life. Losing both of my beloved parents within a matter of weeks of each other was not something I ever gave a thought to.
In this season of grief, photography has become more precious to me than I ever dreamt it would be. It is a gift and an honor. My parents were always bragging on my gifting and shared my work with anyone they could. I found out recently that my dad had a fake Facebook profile set up just so he could keep up with the work I posted. If you knew him, you know how much he hated social media.
They were the ones who bought my first DSLR so I could pursue my dream of photography. They were the ones who loved documenting every moment through a film camera or a video camera. I have a million photos from my childhood, all because of their outlook on life—to live joyfully and generously for the glory of God.
They showed the hands and feet of Jesus in ways that I will probably never live up to. But I hope to carry on that same generous and joyful legacy they left my sister and me.
So here’s to many more years of creating and capturing joyful moments, but with a new perspective. A deeper understanding of just how much these photographs will one day mean.
Because at the end of the day, photographs become part of the legacy we leave behind. And I don’t think I’ll ever take that gift for granted again.
With love, always. 🤍
