Today is National Rare Disease Day. I'm grateful for the chance to recognize the impact that rare diseases have on so many people, but my family specifically. Two of my boys live with a type of ataxia called . The symptoms of this genetic condition are challenges with balance and coordination, among other things. Unfortunately, their condition is also degenerative and currently has no cure. These boys have endured countless hours of physical and occupational therapy to help counteract the effects of ARSACS. Their struggle is constant, but their willpower is unmatched.

It's difficult as a parent to witness firsthand how hard they have to fight to do daily tasks. Would I remove this burden from them if I had the power to? Yes, without question. But I see that these struggles that their bodies are constantly at odds with are no match for their strong, capable, unrelenting souls. I know that they have unseen heavenly helpers protecting them, and I am forever grateful for that.

One of the things I wish I could share with everyone is that we should offer grace more freely. Perhaps the little boy that bumped into you in line at the grocery store fell by no fault of his own. Maybe the kid on the soccer team who doesn't run as fast as everyone else is working so hard just to stay upright. Please know that they're probably trying their absolute best! Let's resolve, myself included, to be more patient, more aware, and more supportive. Because don't our differences make this life so much richer? ❤️

A Friday with no plans and a dwindling number of weeks left on this side of the country. I couldn’t pass up the chance to visit Ocracoke Island and while away the days combing beaches for treasure. Thanks to my adventure buddy for spending a ridiculous number of hours in the car with me. You’re the best! 😊🚙🌊🐚

Nervous to start shooting in manual mode? I have the perfect solution! It’s called Aperture Priority (AV mode) and it’s a helpful transition from using auto to going fully manual.

** Life Update ** After almost 3 years in Virginia, my family and I will be moving back to San Diego in June.
