From the beginning of Leaky Hourglass Ultra, you’re running out of time. ⌛️ At the 6th edition of this last person standing event on a little stretch of asphalt in Halfway, Missouri, runners lost a minute from the cutoff on each 4.167-mile lap - and by the time temperatures hit the mid 90s, attrition took over. In the end, Carrie Payne Gregoire was the last one still moving after 14 laps / 58.338 miles.

Big thanks to photographer Frank Evans who jumped in for us at the very last minute when “life happened” for the originally scheduled shooter, and all of our usual Mile 90 photographers were already committed to other shoots. He cancelled his birthday weekend to hang out with the Leaky Hourglass crew, and we are grateful for his flexibility! Thank you to RD Gary Shaw for his understanding, as well.

Eastern Iowa trail runners closed out August with the first-ever overcast ☁️ ScoCo50. Runners in the 50k, 10-mile, and 5-mile trail races at Scott County Park near Davenport, Iowa usually endure typical late-summer temperatures, but this year the weather gods provided clouds, a little rain, and temps that hovered just under 80°F. Perfect conditions to go all-out and get under the men’s course record time in the 50k (Dan Froeschle, 3:15:04 & Devin Allbaugh, 3:18:46); break the women’s 50k CR (Melissa Taylor, 4:28:03 & Susan Hahn, 4:30:48); shatter the CR in the women’s 10 mile (Gabby Skopec, 1:09:33); and notch a new CR in the women’s 5 mile (Jeanine Link, 39:05). 🔥

Kristi 📸 was on hand to explore the park for the first time, capturing all of the runners’ adventures from start to finish. The 816 Relays took over the Rock Island Bridge in Kansas City’s West Bottoms Friday night. Our photographer Elizabeth Martinko was there to capture the action, from the 4x1-mile relay to the 2-mile open. The Rexy Run 5k/10k - now its 11th year - is a fundraiser for BabyJay’s Legacy of Hope, a Lawrence, Kansas-based nonprofit dedicated to helping the families of children who are fighting cancer. This year, our photographers Liz and John were there to capture the runners and walkers as they came together to celebrate light, hope, and dinosaurs. 🦖

Rick and Kristi were in the wilds of Dubuque, Iowa this weekend for the 14th running of the 13.1M, 7M, and 4M Mines of Spain Trail Races. It’s always a fun shoot, capturing folks taking on the challenging but scenic trails, and then hanging with their trail fam at the finish line party. Many thanks to Sun Trail Running for having us back each year so the runners can have free, photographic proof of their adventures!
