This weekend Rick & Kristi TRIed something a little different… 📸 The Route 66 Triathlon at Lake Arcadia in Edmond, Oklahoma traded a chance of storms for hot and humid conditions. Athletes took on the 🔥 to complete sprint and Olympic-distance triathlon events, plus duathlon and aquabike options. This weekend, 📸 John Knepper traveled to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to shoot the Flower Moon Trail Run - part of the Outlaw 100 Trail Series. The 50 mile, marathon, half, and 5K was set up at a new location, Camp McClintock, on a five-mile loop. Elevation, heat and humidity, and rocky, scenic trails made it a fun and challenging adventure for runners at all levels. The chilly, spring-fed water in Brazil Creek proved an inviting draw for runners at the Berryman Trail Races (50 mile & marathon) this weekend. Despite this cool respite, almost half of the 50-mile runners succumbed to the heat and humidity after their first loop.

Heartland 100 Spirit of the Prairie’s spring sister - Heartland 50 - gives us a completely different look at the Flint Hills. It’s brighter, fresher. The lush green of the young warm-season grasses contrasts with bluebird skies. But the sweeping openness and freedom is still there - and, of course, the warm welcomes at the aid stations and finish line that are a signature part of these old school Kansas ultras.
