The inaugural Show Me Your Free State Marathon and Ultra took runners on a 25-mile out-and-back course with a start point at Rosecrans Airport in St Joseph, Missouri & an end point in Wathena, Kansas. Half Show Me / half Free State, half pavement and half levee gravel. The mostly flat course still challenged runners at distances ranging from a half marathon to 100 miles.

📸 Kristi was there on day one to capture all the action and scenery along the way. All of the images are now live on our website (link in comments). Many thanks to Show Me Your Free State and Benton High School for having us there so that all the images are free to download for personal use. "In near-record, 80-degree October heat in Minnesota, Cooper Mumford won the second annual Break the Bank 50 Mile in 5:48:52, shattering the men’s course record by 1:02:20 and recording the fastest standalone 50-mile finish in Minnesota race history." Year Nine of the Mines of Spain 100.

We saw runners complete their first 100-mile race. Their ninth consecutive finish at MOS100. Their 500th collective mile. They overcame struggles from the past to finally realize redemption. They set records. Chased cutoffs. Danced in the rain. Slipped in the mud. Shivered in the cold. Just couldn’t make it up that climb. Powered up the last hill.

They all experienced the community that’s been built over nearly a decade of running 20-mile loops on this course. It’s what drew many of them there. It’s the thing that got many of them to the finish line. And that community will bring them back in 2027 for Year Ten.

The second running of the breakthebank50 made good on its promise to provide a fast and accessible course, awesome support, and $$ for those who answered the call to break records. Plus, there’s the key you choose at the finish line that opens a safe-deposit box - one with a $500 prize inside.

Runners returned to the Flint Hills in October for the 26th time to take on the Heartland 100 Spirit of the Prairie 100 mile ultra. Sandwiched between vivid sunrises, the skies were impeccable blue and the temperature climbed to near 90’F. Whether you took on 125 miles or 13.1 miles, you were pushed to the fringes of your training base. Here’s just a few of the images captured by Rick, Kristi, and Elizabeth Martinko . What a weekend! Here’s the third and final event that our team covered last Saturday: Wandering Wolves 50k, presented by 🐺 Wyco Wolfpack and 📸 by John Knepper. With 50k, 25k, and 12k options, runners take on the singletrack trails at Wyandotte County Lake Park (no bridle). It’s a flowy, slightly undulating party in the woods with an obligatory pass by the infamous Shouse. And at the finish line, Gilbert Hernandez and the rest of the Wolfpack ensure every runner feels like a rockstar.
