Remembering Leopold Mannes, who died on this day, August the 11th, in 1964.

Leopold Manne and his good friend, Leopold Godowsky Jr. were professional musicians (often collectively referred to by their shortened surnames as 'God & Man')

They were also keen amateur photographers. It is said that they measured their film developing times by whistling the last movement of Brahms' Symphony no. 1 in C-minor at a pace of two beats per second rather than use mechanical timers.

It was the two Leopolds' interest in photography and chemistry that led to their pioneering photographic discoveries - work that was recognised and supported by Kodak - their work led directly to the first commercially viable '3 color subtractive' photographic film.

In short, God & Man - the two Leopolds - gave us Kodachrome.

Remembering the late Werner Bischof who was born on this day, April the 26th, in 1916.

Swiss photographer and photojournalist Bischof became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1949, the first new photographer to join its original founders.

You can read more about his life and see samples of his work via the link that I'll add in the comments section.
