Remembering the late Werner Bischof who was born on this day, April the 26th, in 1916.

Swiss photographer and photojournalist Bischof became a full member of Magnum Photos in 1949, the first new photographer to join its original founders.

Remembering photographer Lisette Model who was born on this day, November the 10th, in 1901 (d.1983)

Austrian born Model moved to the US in 1938, later becoming a naturalised citizen.

She rose to prominence as an active member of the renowned New York Photo League, contributing to many notable publications.

Her personal passion lay in street photography and she left us a superb back-catalogue of works.

Sadly, like so many creatives in the US she fell foul of the McCarthy Era 'witch-hunts' of the 1950s, when the Photo League came under scrutiny by the 'House Un-American Activities Committee' for suspected connections to the Communist Party.

Despite having no such political leanings she was, like so many US artists, placed on the FBl watch list. Current, and potential clients, fearing that they might also come under scrutiny if perceived as supporting her, took their business elsewhere, severely damaging her career.
