The other day, on the way to my oldest’s graduation, this thought hit me.
Thousands of people were heading toward what felt like one of the biggest days of their lives. Proud parents. Nervous graduates. Families celebrating years of hard work and sacrifice.
At the exact same time, the world kept moving.
A man was out for his Friday afternoon run, unaware he was about to hit the traffic jam of the year one block ahead. People were stopping at the four-way stop on their way home from work, thinking about dinner plans, weekend errands, or what show they’d watch that night. To them, it was just another Friday.
And it made me wonder...
How many times have we passed people on the way to the happiest day of their lives?
Or the worst?
How many times have we crossed paths with someone celebrating, grieving, falling in love, saying goodbye, receiving life-changing news, or living their last ordinary day... without ever knowing?
One day, your world will stop.
The plans on your calendar will remain unfinished. The texts will go unanswered. The goals will stay half-complete.
And for most of the world, it will just be a random Friday.
So make every day, every year count.
Don’t put off the session because you think you don’t deserve it yet. Stop waiting until you’ve “earned” it.
What exactly are you waiting for? What needs to happen before you decide you’re worthy of living your life now?
Because none of us know how many ordinary days we have left.
You’re already living the life you’ll someday wish you had one more day to experience.
