These past few months Iāve been reevaluating how I want my own child to show up in my online presence. In all of this reflecting, I decided that if I am questioning if I want to show my sonās face online, the I shouldnāt be showing any childrenās faces on my social media.
I have already gone through my old instagram posts as well as my website and taken down any photos where a childās face is recognizable.
Do I need to be able to post family photos I take in order to continue to book family sessions? Yes. Does a childās face need to be visible for it to be clear that I am a great family photographer? Absolutely not.
Things that are changing moving forward:
-All of my family session contracts will state that no children below the age of consent will be recognizable in any images shared online.
-I will only be posting senior sessions with the written and verbal consent from both the guardian of the senior and the senior themself.
-In order to protect your familyās privacy, I will not be tagging my family session clientās accounts in the photos I post.
This is a decision that feels extremely aligned with my brand. At the end of the day, my photos are for my clients, not me. In a perfect world Iād be able to safely share every beautiful image Iāve ever taken without fear but with the digital age as it currently stands and the open ended capabilities of ai, your childrenās safety is the most important to me as a business owner.
To other photographers, this doesnāt need to be a decision you make as well but if you have also been struggling with what to do in regards to this, I assure you your work speaks for itself and if this is a move you also want to make, DO IT!š¤
