H E L L O 🖤
I've been wanting to do a little reintroduction for a while now. If I'm being honest, I'm just not great at putting my own face out there. I'd much rather be sharing all of your beautiful faces. 😊
So, for those of you who are new here... hi! I'm Mindy, and I'm so happy you're here.
I'm based in Indianapolis, Indiana: Virginia born and Indiana raised. I'm a follower of Christ, and before that scares anyone away, I want you to know this: no matter who you are, what you believe, or what your story looks like, you are welcome here. My hope is that this page is a place where everyone feels seen, valued, loved, and safe.
I'm married to my middle school/high school best friend, I'm a mama to two precious little girls, a proud cat lady to Wally, and the heart behind Mindy Whetsel Photography.
When I'm not behind the camera, you'll usually find me with a cup of coffee (or a glass of good red wine 🍷), reading a book, traveling whenever I get the chance (the Outer Banks has my heart!), baking, and obsessing over black cats.
Before photography became my career, I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Public Health and later earned my Master of Education from Colorado State University. I worked in that field for a while after graduating, but God had different plans for my life…and I'm so thankful He did.
I've loved photography for as long as I can remember, but it became a serious hobby around 2013. Since then, I've photographed everything from landscapes and pets to weddings, births, families, and just about everything in between.
For years, people encouraged me to start a business, but I never felt good enough. Also, life was lifing...
We moved across the country three different times, started new jobs, walked through infertility, were blessed with our girls, bought a home, and experienced both incredible joy and heartbreaking loss. Life was beautiful, messy, and full all at once.
Then came 2020.
Like so many others, we were navigating the uncertainty and isolation of the pandemic. But for our family, that season carried a lot of heartache. I lost my beautiful mother-in-law…who was so much more than an in-law; she was like a mom to me. Around that same time, we also lost a baby through miscarriage.
It was one of the hardest seasons of my life. Somewhere in the middle of all that grief, fear, and uncertainty, I lost a piece of myself.
That season changed me. It reminded me that life is far too short to spend it wondering, "What if?"
Now, this would be the part of the story where I tell you I immediately started my business and everything took off...
Except that's not what happened.
I still let fear win. I still questioned myself. I still believed the lie that I wasn't talented enough.
Then, in February of 2023, something shifted.
I can't fully explain it, but I felt the Lord continually whispering, "Start. Go. Now."
Every excuse I had suddenly felt smaller than the calling I couldn't ignore anymore.
So I started.
Fast forward to today, and the Lord has grown Mindy Whetsel Photography into something I could have never built on my own.
YOU helped build this, too.
Whether you've booked a session, shared a post, left a review, recommended me to a friend, liked a photo, or simply encouraged me along the way—you've been part of this journey, and I am so incredibly grateful.
The truth is, not every day is easy.
A few days ago, I shared that I've been feeling a little discouraged lately. Wedding inquiries have been slower than I expected, and imposter syndrome has definitely tried to creep back in.
Then I remember who's writing my story.
Earlier this year, I prayed for more maternity, newborn, birth, and family sessions because my girls are growing up so fast, and I desperately wanted more time with them...but also those types of sessions are where my heart is. And little by little, God has filled my calendar with exactly those moments.
Looking back, I can see He knew what I needed long before I did.
Photography is what I do, but it isn't who I am.
My identity isn't found in how many weddings I book, how many followers I have, or how successful my business becomes.
My identity is found in Christ.
Behind this camera is simply a human being.
A wife who loves her husband deeply.
A mom who is often overstimulated, constantly learning, healing, and trying her very best to raise two girls who know they are deeply loved and capable of doing anything they set their minds to.
Someone who is still growing, still learning, and still trusting that God knows exactly what He's doing.
If this business grows, I'll praise Him.
If it slows down, I'll trust Him.
Because He hasn't failed me yet.
If you've made it this far, thank you.
Whether you're a longtime client, a new follower, or someone who's simply cheering me on from afar, I'm so grateful you're here.
I hope we get the chance to create something beautiful together someday. 🖤
