Meet Helen… my newest addition to the camera kit 💁🏽‍♀️✨

Yes, she’s a curling iron — and yes, she has a name.

After one too many sessions where curls fell flat, humidity showed up uninvited, or someone needed a quick touch-up… I decided I’m coming prepared too.

Because while you should absolutely come ready, life (and Texas weather) be doing its own thing 😅

So if a curl drops, a bang won’t behave, or you just need a quick refresh — don’t worry, I got you.

If your grandparents are still here… that is a blessing.

If your parents are still here… that’s another generation of love that helped build your family.

And whether we realize it or not, we are living inside the photos our children and grandchildren will one day treasure the most.

As millennials, many of us have become the keepers of our family’s memories. The photos of our parents. The photos of our grandparents. The photos that tell the story of where our family comes from.

This summer I’m considering opening a limited number of Legacy Generational Portrait Sessions for families who want to capture portraits with their parents and grandparents while they’re still here.

Okaaaay behind-the-scenes perfection 🤍

Working out of 201 Lofthaus HQ (my home studio for the day!) and the owner literally made sure my white backdrop was perfectly white before I even picked up my camera. That one step alone saves me so much time in post—and it’s one of the MANY reasons I love shooting here.

I smiled so hard while editing this session that my face literally hurt.

And that’s when it hit me.

Christine Criner-Smith—my teacher back in 2006, the woman who helped guide me toward my teaching certification when I moved to Texas—stood in my studio not as an educator, not as a mentor, but simply as herself.

Christine and her husband hadn’t taken professional portraits since their wedding. Let that sink in.

So we rolled out the red carpet. Two looks. Formal. Casual. Joy-filled. Wise. Playful. Deeply connected.

As I edited, I prayed:
God, bless me with sessions that make me smile like this every time. And bless the people I love with work that brings them the same joy.

This isn’t about smiling to make money.
It’s about being blessed enough to earn a living doing something that fills your spirit so fully you forget it’s work.

This is why I do what I do.
This is legacy.

Most people don’t know this about me —
when I first met my husband, I was deeply into writing poetry, drawing, and creating art.
Those passions shaped who I am at my core.

Life happened. Adulting happened.
Some of those parts got pushed to the background.

This week, my husband surprised me with a midweek date.
He gifted me a fragrance and said it’s what he wanted me to smell like that night.
When we arrived, I realized we were at an open mic night.

Poetry. Cocktails. Street tacos.
I woke up the next morning smiling… with butterflies.

I’m still in love with my husband. 🤍

Thick. Natural. Dense. LONG. 🖤
Our hair is 100% natural and as much as I love our curls, sometimes the upkeep is a lot—so braids are the move for us most of the time.

So grateful for my girl for coming through with the house call, reasonable prices, and consistently amazing work. Not just talented, but a genuinely great person. ✨
