Happy September! A month of Summer to Fall transition ☀️ 🍂
At first the hints of "Fall in the air" are quite subtle but with each passing day the Fall feelings get much more apparent. Here in the Pacific Northwest September typically brings our first chilly evenings, soaking rains, and mountain snowfall. Are you ready? 😉

🌕 Super Blue Moon rising over the Columbia River Gorge was a sight to see, and capture! 🤩
Here’s a quick image from 8:26pm with the Hood River Bridge and a cruise boat parked at the Marina.
First blue supermoon of the year, also the last one until 2037.
A blue moon is the second time a full moon appears in the same month, while a supermoon is when it is at the closest point in its orbit around the Earth. Cool moon stuff 😎

Hope to see you all downtown Hood River for First Friday tomorrow Sept 1st, 5-8pm.
I plan to display some prints on Oak Street for the Art Walk themed evening, more details to come.

What a stunning evening to experience and photograph the lunar eclipse 🙌
The universe is so full of awe, wonder and beauty! Loved seeing so many folks out enjoying a warm summer evening and the incredible eclipsed moon in the sky 🌝
I’ve been on a mission this past 24 hours to photograph the moonrise yesterday evening, moonset this morning, and then moonrise & eclipse again this evening. Put about 300 miles on my motorcycle riding to strange places in the middle of nowhere and sleeping way too little 😅
Love getting out there to capture the beauty!

Happy Eclipse Day to all who are fortunate enough to be in the right spot! Sure wish I could be teleported to Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Portugal, Russia, or Africa today 😂
Here in the US only a partial eclipse will be visible just in parts of the Northeast, Midwest and Alaska.
Since I'm missing out I'll share photos from previous eclipses 🤩
I'll never forget the feeling of experiencing "totality"
There's nothing quite like it, highly recommended!! 🙌
NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration will be live streaming the event: https://www.nasa.gov/live/

Also tonight the Perseids Meteor Shower will be at it's peak and there's a new moon (dark skies). If you go outside late (after midnight until dawn is best) you might be lucky enough to see 50-100 meteors per hour ✨
The visible streak of light is actually a glowing column of heated air and vaporized material, not the rock itself, which is typically the size of a pebble or grain of sand and weighs less than 1-2 grams. Meteors enter the atmosphere 50 to 75 miles in altitude at speeds ranging from 25,000 mph to 160,000 mph! 🤯

It's smoky skies season in the Pacific Northwest 🔥
Fires burning all over and we're only halfway through- could be 2 more months of this 😳
Often the soaking rains don't come until well into October- we shall see
Stay safe out there and don't be playing with fire right now ‼️ Even with all the smoky fire doom & gloom, there is always beauty to find. Love to capture and share with you 😀

This evening on Larch Mountain Oregon 🙌
Full moonrise over Mt Hood was mostly a bust, but sunset through the clouds was spectacular ✨
Upon arrival at sunset, Mt Hood was visible through the low clouds, but they were moving in quick! At the time of moonrise Mt Hood was mostly concealed but then it came in view again, along with Mt Saint Helens, Mt Adams, and the Columbia River ‼️
A lovely evening for a motorcycle ride and capturing the views from Sherrard Point on Larch Mountain 🤩

Sure was hoping for a great lightning show yesterday here in Hood River! ⚡️
It didn’t end up happening, but sure did elsewhere! Check out the graphic shared by KGW Rod Hill to see that 6,892 strikes happened everywhere in Oregon/Washington, except for here apparently 😅
Oh well, we’ll try again next time! But it did inspire me to share some favorite lightning images from the archives, enjoy! 🤩
