We lost a legend. My first Fire Chief Ed Wellman. The amount of people that looked up to you is unmatched. No matter the situation, Ed could always find fun while remaining semi professional lol..and he loved to point at things.... He was a great leader, a friend, and he will be truly missed. I'll never forget a fire scene in Pilot Point with Ed. Little Elm was mutual aid, it was a hay fire, and the responding LE truck just sank in the mud. We we're all worried about getting stuck, so Ed told me to park my truck and hop in with him. He drove over to the stuck LE truck, got out, smiled and said the fire is over there boys while laughing...I have forgotten a lot of scenes, but that one I will never forget. He could have jumped out throwing a fit, but he smiled, said pump the water out, grab gear and head to the scene. He was a cool head in chaos. He retired shortly after. I was lucky enough over the years that my "real job" put me in Ed's house ever so often. I look up to you, and I know many other do as well. You'll be greatly missed Chief Ed Wellman.
My thoughts and prayers, and all my love to his family and friends during this tough time. Ed is at peace now.
