All of the rain this late in May has created some beautiful conditions. I was able to get back in the forest later on in the week. I endured ticks and the constant threat of snake bite to get this image. It was worth it. I waited a couple of days after the hard rains to ensure that the water would be blue and not brown. I love the big leaf magnolias at this time of the year.

I went out to the forest on Monday. I was hoping to catch some unique conditions with all of this rain. I was surprised to find that the water levels in Bankhead were not as high as I expected them to be. I went to a couple of places, but found the same conditions. On my way out I visited this spot that I found a long time ago. The water wasn’t flowing great here either, but the lush greens made up for it.

I really have been enjoying my journey with astrophotography over the last year. Most of my focus has been on wide field photography, but I have also tried to photograph a few larger, deep space targets. One of these is shown in the image below, the Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex. It is actually a very large target. You can easily see it when you are capturing Milky Way images (with an astro camera). The colors are amazing. This was actually created from stacking 44 images taken over 2 hours. The more images you take, the more detail you can bring out.
