Emotional support doggo.

Riley has been pretty full of energy since the temperatures dropped and I really haven’t been in the best head space this week, so it felt appropriate to get out of the house for a bit to get some fresh air. I hadn’t hiked Hanging Rock in years and she never has, so I wasn’t sure we’d make the entire hike. But slowly and surely, we made it up there. She snoozed on the rocks while I sat and reflected and calmed myself. Before we left I had a couple kind strangers take our picture, and once on our way she just about dragged me down the mountain! Not bad for a dog that will be 12 years old this coming winter.

Air cooled Volkswagen owners have a tradition of meeting up at Greensboro’s own Herbie’s Place diner. They even host a “Break The Record” event annually in an effort to bring as many cars as they can possibly fit into the small parking lot. A must attend for any semi-local enthusiasts.

All that remains of Brass Eagle Loop. This was a small gravel loop road known by locals for the walking trails and large creek flowing underneath its’ ancient access bridge. To me and countless other teenagers across many years, it was also a great spot to get into some late night trouble. Drifting trucks and 4x4s through the gravel, getting stuck in the swampy area, or just hanging out when we were supposed to be home. I know many people that spent time out here back in high school. Some years ago, the bridge was partially washed away and never repaired, allowing nature to take over again.
