Our trip north to see “Big Boy.” The historic Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive nicknamed “Big Boy” went through Argos, Indiana on June 5. Union Pacific’s famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, is journeying to the East Coast this summer for the first time as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The tour includes more than 50 whistle-stops in ten states, including stops for the first time in Indiana. Hundreds of people turned out near Argos to see the train, many coming from out-of-state. We viewed the train from about 300 yards away across a field. ;

The historic city of Lebanon, Indiana held the inaugural Boone County Classic Cycling Event on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This first-of-its-kind road cycling celebration featured a 100K (~62miles) and a 25-mile ride. This was a chip timed Fondo making it a true event for recreational riders, racers and families of all ages. — Inspired by the early-season Spring Classics of Europe, the Boone County Classic is part of the newly created Indiana Race Series that includes other popular events such as Pedal Putnam, the Dust Bowl 100, and the annual Harvest 50 gravel race. 2026 Zipp Recon Ride #2 - Big Walnut Watershed (Dust Bowl 100) — Ride Details: This ride covers the northernmost portion of the 100-mile route. Highlights of this route include two covered bridges, a historic iron bridge, and 4 crossings of Big Walnut Creek. 29 miles. Start Location: North Putnam High School, 8869 250 E, Roachdale, IN 46172. — The Zipp Recon Ride Series is back for 2026 and will consist of 3 group rides leading up to the 2026 Dust Bowl 100 presented by Zipp. These rides are open to anyone and everyone (you don’t have to be registered for the Dust Bowl 100 to participate). Each ride will be approximately 30 miles in distance and will cover a different portion of the DB100 race course. Riders that participate in all 3 Zipp Recon Rides and the Zipp Pre-Ride (which takes place the day before the DB100) will see over 90% of the Dust Bowl 100 course before race day! Zipp will be at each ride providing on-site support and snacks.
