Another senior night, this one at Ga***rd High School as they honored 5-seniors before their match with TC West, which the Titans won 3-0. I had 2 seniors to cover in this game tonight, so my main focus was on them. Added limited photos of the other. I am sure Kenny and Dylan will have everyone covered. The Devils played well in spurts, but could not take control of a game during the match. Have faced a number of injuries, and surprised they do not have more the way they celebrate winning points :)

1 player to photograph for Boyne Falls volleyball tonight as the Loggers hosted a tri-meet with Mackinaw City & Alanson. It was senior night and a Pink games as well, so captured a bit of the surroundings :)

My wife Gina wanted me to post this for everyone involved with the Blue Devil volleyball program;

Dear Coaches, Freshamn; JV; and Varsity Volleyball Players,

I want to express my gratitude for making the Pink Out game an unforgettable experience for me.
They say that women are at their strongest when we lift each other up, and that night, all of you truly lifted me. Being honored by your team was a moment I will treasure forever.
Thank you for the beautiful flowers, the wonderful gift card, every warm hug, the generous proceeds raised & to the sponsors for their thoughtful donations. Your kindness and generosity mean more to me than words can say.
To the coaches: thank you for leading these incredible young women and teaching them the power of compassion and community.

Some Saturday hockey action from Petoskey in the 12UAA tournament at the Petoskey Ice Arena. Always strange to be in a cold hockey arena bundled up, then walking outside with your coat and winter hat on to mid 60's weather :) This is so early in the year, but these players look like they are more in a mid season form. Really good hockey IQ at this level, and really good competition. 6 players to focus on today with Alpena & Petoskey. Getting geared up for a great hockey season. Here is a photo set of the players I covered, and a few others, during Ga***rd's 38-20 win over Croswell-Lexington on Friday night to wrap up the Blue Devil season with a 4-5 record. Not what they had planned on for this year, but the entire program is very solid with a good number of athletes participating from varsity through the 5th & 6th grade programs. Football has always been my favorite sport to cover (although hockey is making a good run), and the season coming to a close is always a bummer, but it happens every year :)

Ga***rd sophomore Colton Price connects on a 42-yard field goal against Croswell-Lexington, which is tied for the 5th longest in Blue Devil history. The longest was 48-yards by Jacob Dombrowski in 2008. I thought they were going to give Colton a try from around 50-yards later in the game, but they went for it on 4th down.

The Blue Devil kicking game is the strongest I have ever seen from varsity through 8th grade. These kickers all have one thing in common.......growing up playing competitive soccer. In fact Colton is on the Blue Devil varsity soccer team. Here they are;

Ever wonder if these players under the 'Friday Night Lights' have an impact on the younger players.....no need to.....they do! These young athletes will be doing the same thing in a few years down the road :)
