Day 2 of the 45th Parallel baseball tourney. Picked up a few more of a couple of 14U players in a morning game, then the last 2 of the 8U games for Ga***rd Elite, who won the tourney with a 4-3 win over St Johns. A really good game to wrap up the tourney. @ players to focus on in this game. Added just a few extra photos as I did not do to much random shooting on this day.

Photos from day 1 of the 45th Parallel Grand Slam baseball tournament in Ga***rd. There are 2 each of the 8-players I am covering. Tomorrow at 10:15am I will be at the 14u Ga***rd Elite vs Northern Lights as one game on Saturday was a bit of a sleeper and the other had my player elected, so I have the chance to capture more of these players as they play against one another. Then at 1:45pm, it will be the 8U Ga***rd Elite player to focus on. Took just a few Saturday as I could not make the schedule work to slot in everyone at the scheduled times. This will work out Sunday though to be locked into the 8u field on a semi-final game. It was a long day as my players were spread out during the 6 scheduled game times. Though in a 30-minute lightning delay, and I was draggin a bit at the end :) Glad I can sleep in a bit tomorrow :)

I got off to a pretty good start of editing the Just Dance recital the past 2-days. 17 total dancers, and I have selected and cropped photos of 12 of them so far. Off to Grand Rapids tomorrow which will slow me up a bit, and baseball tournament this weekend in Ga***rd. For sure this will go into next week.

Personal Update

There is no better time than now to let everyone know what has been happening with our family recently. We wanted to make sure we understood our path forward before sharing this publicly.

Back in April, my wife, Gina, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Like most people, you always think this is something that happens to someone else—not your family. But cancer has now landed on our doorstep, and it is the main reason why I've covered far fewer spring games than I normally do. I've tried to respond to everyone who has reached out about games and photography, but I know I've missed some messages along the way.

I think Gina said it best: it's hard to continue doing regular life while also learning to live with this new normal called cancer. So many people have walked this road before us, and now it's our turn to take those first steps.

We are incredibly fortunate. Gina has always stayed on top of her yearly mammograms, and that's where this was discovered. Initially, we thought we were in the clear after a biopsy came back benign, but doctors found a second spot. She had to go through the process all over again, and this time the results came back positive.

Thankfully, the tumor was very small, but it is also an aggressive form of breast cancer. Just a week and a half later, she was in surgery to have it removed. The surgery went well, and there is no evidence that the cancer has spread. However, her doctors have recommended chemotherapy to treat anything microscopic that may be undetected, and that journey begins at the end of this month.

As for RD Sports Photo, I will continue covering what I can. There will likely be some gaps this summer depending on how Gina responds to treatment. This has also slowed down my editing and photo delivery times for those who have signed up with me, and I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

I've already made four trips to Grand Rapids, with another one coming this week… and I'm starting to hate that drive :)

Overall, we feel very good about the prognosis, but we'd be lying if we said we weren't nervous about the next phase and how chemotherapy will affect her. The timing isn't ideal, especially with our son Landen getting married on August 1st, but unfortunately we don't get to choose when cancer arrives at our doorstep.

Thank you, as always, for your support, prayers, and understanding as we navigate this new normal together. Please hang in there with me as I do my best to balance family, photography, and everything in between.

The 45th Parallel Grand Slam Baseball Tournament held in Ga***rd this weekend hosted by Ga***rd Elite Athletics will be my next event. My main focus is on Ga***rd Elite; Petoskey Baseball Club; Thunder Bay Blockheads and Northern Lights out of Traverse City as I currently have players locked in for these four clubs. There are 18 total clubs at this event with 41 total teams if I have counted that correctly. Only 1 field I can be at during a time slot :)

$100 an athlete. If it works out I would like to get to 2 games of each, but will depend on how the schedule shakes out and who signs up. The goal is to get 25 digital images, and hopefully more based on the flow of the game, playing time etc.

Any questions, please feel free to message me or email at; [email protected]

The crowd favorite....the Dad's getting their dance time on stage. They are such a big part of making it run smoothly out in the audience, and then they get their time to shake it all out :)
