Some celebrations remind me just how lucky I am to do this job. Sarah and Zach gathered with their favorite people at Tannahill’s Music Hall & Tavern in the Fort Worth Stockyards the night before their wedding, and this evening meant so much to me. This was my THIRD wedding with Zach’s family! Getting to hug familiar faces and watch everyone reconnect felt like being welcomed back into a family I’ve grown to love. And then I met Sarah’s people. Her brother gave a toast that brought the entire room to tears, and I immediately understood just how special her family is, too. Two families filled with so much love, coming together to celebrate two pretty incredible humans. After more than 20 years of photographing weddings, it’s still these relationships and moments that mean the most to me. What a privilege it is to be invited into people’s lives this way. ❤️

Here’s my unpopular opinion about film wedding photography. I LOVE film. The cameras, the negatives, the intentionality, and especially the magic of watching a photograph come to life in the darkroom. But today’s film wedding photography often stops being analog after the negatives are developed. Images are scanned, digitally edited, and delivered online. And for me, that takes away part of the artisanal process that made film so special. It’s one reason I don’t typically shoot film at weddings. If I’m going to shoot it, I want the full experience—from camera to darkroom to finished print. So before paying extra for film at your wedding, ask yourself: What do you actually love about it? The grain? The color? The nostalgia? Or the analog process itself? Because beautiful photography isn’t about whether it’s film or digital. It’s about the photographer behind the camera.

A little trip back to January 2025 for Jordyn + John’s beautiful Fort Worth wedding. From the anticipation of getting ready to their emotional ceremony at University Christian Church and an incredible celebration at the Fort Worth Club, this day was full of moments worth remembering. I love sharing behind-the-scenes footage because you get to see more than the finished photographs. You get a glimpse of what the wedding day actually felt like. Some moments feel extra special when you’ve been part of a family’s story for years. I first met Carly when I photographed her older sister’s wedding. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of photographing their family through so many different chapters. So when Jason proposed to Carly at the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth, getting to photograph it felt like such a full-circle moment. From hiding before the proposal to capturing the big YES, their first portraits as an engaged couple, and the surprise of having their entire family there to celebrate—it was a pretty incredible day. This is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer. The relationships don’t have to end when the wedding is over. Sometimes you get to be there for the next generation of love stories. Carly + Jason, I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Jennifer said this so well. One of the best parts of a wedding reception is that everyone finally exhales. The ceremony is over, the nerves settle, the music starts, and suddenly the day feels less structured and more lived-in. That’s when some of the best photographs happen. Not necessarily the ones we planned for. Not the portraits we carefully scheduled. But the right-place, right-time moments that happen because we created enough space in the timeline for you to actually be present with your people. A hug you weren’t expecting. A friend you haven’t seen in years. Your parents laughing together. Someone absolutely losing it on the dance floor. You can’t plan every meaningful photograph. But you can build a wedding day that gives those moments room to happen.

There’s so much of a wedding story that happens before the ceremony ever begins. The anticipation. Getting ready with your closest friends. Your mom helping with the dress. Seeing Dad. The quiet little moments in between. And of course, time for beautiful bridal portraits before everything starts moving a little faster. A few of my favorite getting-ready moments from Autumn + Ricky’s wedding at The Sinclair in downtown Fort Worth.

One wedding reception can require a completely different lighting approach from one moment to the next. For Ida + Derek’s reception at The Crescent Club in Dallas, I moved between natural light, off-camera flash, direct flash, and video light depending on what was happening, where I was in the room, and what I wanted the final photograph to feel like. Natural light when it was beautiful and available. Off-camera flash when I wanted dimension and control. Direct flash when the energy called for something punchier and more immediate. Video light when I wanted a softer, continuous source I could see and shape in real time. The goal isn’t to have one favorite lighting setup and force it onto every situation. It’s knowing enough different tools to choose the one that serves the moment. That’s a huge part of photographing weddings well: the light changes, the room changes, the energy changes—and you have to be ready to change with it.

Ida + Derek’s wedding was one of those days that felt emotional from beginning to end—in the best possible way. There were tears, laughter, huge smiles, quiet moments, beautiful light, and so much joy between the two of them. They were incredibly sweet with each other, and it was such an honor to be there documenting all of it. From their ceremony at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe to portraits and celebration at Hotel Crescent Court, the whole day felt warm, elegant, and genuinely full of feeling.
