HEADSHOT vs. BRANDING SESSION
What's the difference between a professional headshot and a personal branding session?
Think of it this way:
A headshot introduces you.
A branding session tells your story.
A headshot is focused primarily on your face and expression. It's the image you might use on LinkedIn, your company website, an email signature, a bio, or a directory.
A branding session goes much further.
We create a collection of images that shows who you are, what you do, and how you want people to experience your business.
That might include portraits, environmental images, you working, details of your workspace, multiple outfits, and a variety of images you can use across your website and social media.
If you just need one great photograph of yourself → headshot.
If you need a library of images to market your business → branding session.
And sometimes you need both.
Which one sounds more like what you need right now?

It’s the details that tell the story.
The way a piece catches the light.
The way it feels in your hands.
The little moments of movement that bring a piece of jewelry to life.
For Ocean Timepieces, the goal of this branding photography was to create images that feel elegant, modern, tactile, and unmistakably theirs—images that do more than show the jewelry, but create a feeling around it.
Because great product photography doesn't just answer “What does it look like?”
It makes you want to reach out and touch it.
Brand photography + product imagery for Ocean Timepieces.

The First Impression
Before someone meets you, they may see your photograph.
On LinkedIn.
On your website.
In an email.
On social media.
In a proposal.
On a speaker bio.
That photograph becomes part of the first impression you're making.
A professional headshot isn't about looking perfect.
It's about looking confident, approachable, credible, and like yourself.
That's why I don't think a headshot should feel like a rushed photo you squeeze into your schedule because someone told you that you need one.
It should be an experience.
A chance to slow down, get comfortable, and create an image that actually represents you.
If you looked at your current professional photo today, would you say it still represents who you are and what you're doing?

I have had the pleasure of working with some incredible brands and businesses over the years. It is always so exciting to see them expand and grow. Ocean Timepieces hired me in the fall for a branding session to update their website and now they are adding a whole new line of jewelry. We had so much fun down in Mystic, CT capturing these images. What is your brand? Have you thought of how you would want to capture it? What do you want the images on your website to say about you and what you offer your clients?

From a recent evening capturing the incredible performance and after talk of Unreconciled at The Academy of Music!
This performance was absolutely incredible. I feel so fortunate that I could be there to document it.

Your Headshot Should Feel Like You
A professional headshot doesn't have to feel stiff, overly posed, or corporate.
In fact, my favorite headshots usually happen when someone stops worrying about whether they're “doing it right.”
You don't need to know how to pose. You don't need to be naturally comfortable in front of a camera. And you definitely don't need to be “photogenic.”
That's my job.
During a headshot session, I guide you through posing, expression, movement, and positioning so you can relax and let your personality come through.
The goal isn't to make you look like someone else.
It's to create a professional portrait where you look at the image and think:
“That's me. And I really like how I look.”
I photograph professional headshots and personal branding portraits in Easthampton, MA, serving professionals, entrepreneurs, creatives, and businesses throughout Western Massachusetts.
Would you describe yourself as someone who loves, tolerates, or avoids having your picture taken?

One of the most common questions I get before a headshot session:
“What should I wear?”
My first answer is always: wear something that makes you feel like yourself.
Your professional headshot doesn't have to mean a black blazer, white shirt, and serious expression.
Your clothing can communicate something about your personality and your profession.
Creative? Let's show that.
Approachable? Let's show that.
Polished and professional? Absolutely.
Bold and confident? Even better.
I recommend bringing several options to your portrait session so we can choose what works best with the setting, lighting, and purpose of your images.
And if you're unsure, I'm happy to help you think it through beforehand.
Your headshot should represent the professional you are today, not some generic version of what you think a professional “should” look like.
