Sometimes we think family photos have to be perfectly posed...

Meanwhile these girls were hosting a tea party.

The prettiest part of this session wasn't the dresses or the huge windows. It was watching two sisters completely wrapped up in their own little world.

It's the kind of play they'll forget someday, and the kind of photographs they'll treasure because of it.

Which one are you choosing? 👇🏻

The smallest shift in expression, the light, the way she rests her hand on her bump...those tiny differences are often the ones families end up loving most years later.

When I deliver a gallery, I'm looking for feeling, not just variety. Sometimes the photographs that look the most alike on first glance tell completely different stories.

Just a couple of weeks after this evening, they became a family of five.

I loved watching these two big brothers love on their mom before they met their newest teammate. These are the moments their little brother will one day get to look back on—the family that was waiting so excitedly for him.

Three weeks together at the beach, and one magical evening to remember it by.

One of the best things about extended family sessions is that they preserve a season that will never happen in quite the same way again. Kids grow. Grandparents change. Dogs get older. Family traditions evolve.

If your whole family is together for vacation, that's the perfect time to photograph everyone. Not just because it's convenient, but because those photos become more valuable every year.

A few tips if you're planning an extended family session:
• Schedule it early in your trip in case weather changes.
• Coordinate colors instead of matching outfits.
• Expect movement, not perfection (especially with little kids).
• Make time for every combination—grandparents with grandkids, siblings, couples, the whole crew, and yes...the dog.

Years from now, these are the photographs everyone will wish they had.
