They used to say, “I’m not one of your little friends.” 🤭😬

Fast forward a few years later and now y’all are laughing together, going out together, sharing inside jokes, and calling each other every five minutes just to talk about nothing. The gag is… your mom really became one of your “little” friends after all. 😉😏🤏🏾

One of the most beautiful things about motherhood is creating a healthy bond that grows with your children through every stage of life. From discipline and guidance when they’re young to friendship, trust, and connection as they grow older.

Honestly, me and my mom were attached at the hip. People used to joke that I was with her 25/8.🤣🤭And truthfully, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

As someone whose mom is no longer here, moments like these hold an even deeper meaning for me. They remind me how special it is to create memories, nurture healthy bonds, and cherish the people we love while we can.

To know my favorite girl, my mom, is to know that she absolutely adored her children.

Every single thing my mom did was for her “5 Trophies,” as she lovingly referred to us.

While on earth, she made it her mission to assure me of how proud she was of me. In her words on January 3, 2015:

“My No. 2 princess (second girl and last child), Mom is sooo proud of you. God has truly blessed us, and for that we are forever grateful. I know you have your head on straight, but don’t take things for granted. Give no room for the devil.
You are another shining light in the family. We love you and know you are going to make us proud. Keep shining, princess.”

While I wish so badly at times that she had the opportunity to physically see her legacy playing out, there has always been this deep feeling that she got a glimpse of it.

Your absence is greatly felt.

However, the memories we shared and the beautiful pictures I have of you, of us, and of our family will be cherished forever.

My girl, Marciá shared with me in a raw unplanned video about how much her children mean to her, but also how she realizes that she also need to be poured into.

This photoshoot was more than a photoshoot for her, but a gateway to finally see what making herself a priority as well could look like.

Mama, this is your reminder that taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is necessary. 🫶🏾💐🫂

So much of motherhood is pouring into everyone else, making sure your children are okay, showing up for your family, and carrying responsibilities that often go unseen. But while you are nurturing everyone around you, you also deserve care, rest, peace, and moments that refill you too.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I want every mother reading this to know that your well-being matters. Your mind matters. Your emotions matter. Your rest matters.

“Me time” is not something you should feel guilty about. Whether it’s taking a quiet drive, booking the photoshoot, going to brunch, sitting in silence, praying, journaling, taking a nap, or simply having one uninterrupted moment to yourself, take it seriously. You cannot continuously pour from an empty cup.

A healthier, happier, more rested you benefits not only yourself, but the people you love most too.

To every mother who constantly puts herself LAST: this is your sign to make space for yourself again.

You deserve softness and to be cared for too. 💛🫂🤏🏾

These small hands… won’t stay this small.

Right now, they reach for you without thinking.

They fit perfectly in yours.

They hold on like you’re their whole world.

And one day… they won’t.

Not all at once. Not in a way you can prepare for. Just slowly, quietly… over time.

Until you’re looking back, trying to remember exactly how it felt to hold them like this.

To be needed like this.

To be their safe place in this season of their lives.
