PART II: THE CONSUMPTION

In Part I, I wanted everything to feel warm and beautiful and ALMOST innocent. He’s drawn to her even though it’ll likely consume him.

Part II is what happens when he gets too close. The sun started to really set on the horizon and we changed to a darker dress to enhance the effects. And then adding the black veil felt like a funeral. The innocence completely gone. Him gone.

And then the last shot is her emergence (‘Emergence’ is another beautiful Sleep Token song) and ready for the next one.

This entire shoot was one giant creative experiment for me and I’m so ridiculously happy with how it came to life.

Thank you for coming along on my fan girl —> art journey 😅

PART I: THE ATTRACTION

This shoot started with one of my favorite songs, Take Me Back to Eden by Sleep Token.

I’ve always been obsessed with the imagery in it. The song is a progressive/alternative metal blend that speaks of the idea of being drawn toward something beautiful even when you know getting too close might destroy you.

The lyrics that really created this vision in my mind is “My, my. Those eyes like fire. I’m a winged insect. You’re a funeral pyre.”

Her red hair was the icing on the cake in the symbolism as the ‘fire’ he is drawn to.

I wanted this first half of this two-part series to feel soft, warm and innocent like Eden. And then as story goes along, they feel more drawn to each other. Obsessed with each other.

And then I knew sunlight HAD to be a huge part of it. Living in Alaska means golden hour isn’t always something I can count on so creating this in Colorado felt perfect with their steady days of sunshine. My vision HAD to have this golden hour light for it to come life.

Be ready for Part II: THE CONSUMPTION

She was never just the muse. She was the art.

Something a little different than my normal work. I want to forever experiment with editing, play with movement and try new ideas because photography itself is art after all.

There’s something so special about an intimate backyard wedding in Homer, Alaska. Especially when the backyard comes with glacier views, Kachemak Bay down below and all the little details in between.

Fireweed and peonies in the hand-tied bouquet, a four wheeler get-away vehicle and the people they love gathered right there with them. It all came together so beautifully 🥹

Congratulations to G + B ☀️🌲

The pouring Alaskan rain only added to this beautiful surprise proposal.

Congratulations to M + R 🖤

Getting to be there for moments like this will never be lost on me. I really wouldn’t change what I do for the world. 🖤

These were taken only moments apart and show two parts of the same story. One captures the physical details that made up the decor of the wedding while the other showcases the lighting that created the atmosphere and brought the whole thing together.

For the first, I found a table away from the window but with beautiful light sprawled across it. I exposed in camera for the brightest highlights instead of the shadows. That let the room fall into darkness naturally, creating a cinematic mood where we are drawn into the lights and shadows.

For the second, I found a softly lit table by the window that showcased all the fine details on the tables themselves.

Both deserve to be in a wedding gallery.
