In December 2013, the Aaron Chang Ocean Art Gallery opened its second location at 789 West Harbor Drive in The Headquarters, a newly complete project in the Seaport District of San Diego. This remodeled, luxury waterfront plaza was once the San Diego Police Department’s headquarters and jail. Upscale and modern throughout, The Headquarters preserved some of the historical elements of the property, resulting in a unique experience for tourists and locals alike. Adjacent to the Manchester Grand Hyatt, the Aaron Chang Ocean Art Gallery complements its modern elegance with a view of the San Diego Bay. Flanked by popular restaurants Eddie V’s, Puesto and Seasons 52, the gallery at The Headquarters welcomes an eclectic mix of local residents, international tourists and business travellers. “The Headquarters is a special place,” says gallery owner and artist, Aaron Chang. “It’s gratifying to be able to present images of the power and beauty of the ocean to people from all over the globe … the draw of the sea evokes such powerful human emotions. And for local San Diegans, this is a great place for a date night or an outing where you want to feel like you’re on vacation!” The Headquarters gallery features Aaron’s large format photographic prints with surf and ocean themes alongside several striking surfboard sculptures. Red Mountain Gold - A dirt road bends along the edge of a meadow near Red Mountain Pass in Colorado's San Juan Mountains. Gold aspens line the right side of the road, with dark spruce rising behind them. To the left, a wet meadow holds pools of standing water and willows turned rust and orange.

In the distance, the iron-red slopes of Red Mountain show through under a heavy, overcast sky. The storm light flattens the shadows, so the yellows hold their saturation and the red peak keeps its color. The road leads the eye into the frame and out toward the mountain.

Heart of Gold - In the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, an entire aspen grove has turned at once. White trunks rise through a canopy of solid gold, with a flare of orange at the left edge. Green undergrowth and fallen leaves cover the forest floor.

Shelter [New] - Deep in a slot canyon in northern Arizona, a great arc of sandstone reaches over the passage, a shelter through the ages. Beneath it, a fin of rock rises toward the opening, and daylight pours through the gaps around it. The stone runs from deep plum in the shadows to flame orange and gold wherever the light finds it.

From the canyon floor, the walls close in, keeping the elements out and the warmth in. The rock has held this shape for longer than anyone has been here to see it. Under its arch, the world goes quiet. There is nowhere to be but here.

Dune Blue [New] - A storm sky hangs over the dunes at White Sands National Park, New Mexico. It goes to a deep indigo at the top of the frame. Below it, the gypsum sand stays bright white, and wind ripples run through the foreground.

The picture is two tones and one line. Dark sky and white sand meet along a soft, rolling horizon. The air carries the smell of rain that hasn't fallen yet.
