For a while now I've been quietly building an iOS app for landscape photographers, working with a small group of testers to get it right. It's called GoldenLight, and it's the tool I've wanted for 16+ years of chasing light on the Oregon Coast all the way to the Central Oregon high desert and beyond.
We're ready to open up the beta to a wider group.
What's in it:
• Subject alignments — pick your subject and GoldenLight tells you when the sun or moon will line up right behind it. Plan the shot before you ever leave the house.
• Sky color prediction — how good is tonight's sunset actually going to be, before you drive out there
• Golden hour and blue hour timing for any location, any date
• A sun and moon azimuth scrubber, so you can see exactly where the light will fall on your composition — tonight, next week, or months out
• Aurora forecasting and activity info
• Cloud and conditions forecasting built for photographers, not commuters
• Save and plan your locations so you're ready when the window opens
• And plenty more we're still refining
