One of the things I love most about photographing families is that no two sessions are ever the same.

Some kids are shy. Some are full of energy. Some want to tell me every fact they know about dinosaurs, and some just want to be held by Mom the whole time.

But that's the fun of it and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My favorite photos aren't about getting everyone to look perfectly at the camera. They're about photographing your family exactly as you are in this season of life. Because years from now, those are the moments that will mean the most. 💛

Photo Tip Friday!

You know when you tell your kids to "smile!" for a photo and you get....that face that looks like a grimace or like they're in pain?

Yeah we want to avoid that face 🤣

So, instead of telling them to smile or "say cheese," ask them a funny question or tell them a joke. Tell them to make a funny face.

The genuine expressions that usually result are the best and what you'll want to remember ❤️

A little personal post today 🩵. One of my photos of my son and our dog, Ziggy, was recently published in a photography magazine, which is pretty exciting, but I'd love the photo just as much even if it never left my computer.

It was one of those everyday moments that didn't feel extraordinary at the time, but looking back on it now, it makes me so happy to have a photo of the two of them just hanging out on an ordinary day.

Those are the moments I'm always after, both for my own family and for yours. Take a look on page 2 if you'd like!

PHOTO TIP FRIDAY

The first 10 minutes of a session are often the hardest. It's completely normal for kids (and parents!) to need a little time to warm up.

New person, a new location, and a camera is a lot. Even for me, as a photographer, I feel completely unnatural when I'm in front of, instead of behind, the camera.

So don't worry if your child isn't smiling right away or you feel a little awkward. We can take our time, play, explore, and settle in.

Some of the best moments happen after first few minutes 🤩

"What should we wear?" is probably the most common question I get before a family photo session. With good reason because the right outfits definitely can add to your photos. But I know it can feel QUITE overwhelming to plan outfits for your entire family 😆.

If you're planning summer family photos, here are some easy tips:

✔️Choose outfits that feel comfortable and like yourself.
✔️ Coordinate colors rather than matching exactly.
✔️ Add layers, textures, or accessories for visual interest.
✔️ Avoid neon colors, large logos, and distracting graphics.

The biggest thing is to pick something you're comfortable in and makes you feel confident. I posted the photos of some color palettes that photograph well in the summer months here.

MODEL CALL!

I'm looking for TWO families to help me create some updated content for my website and marketing materials.

I'm specifically looking for:
📍 One family for a session on Main Street in East Aurora
📍 One family for a session at Knox Farm

Sessions will take place within the next few weeks, approximately one hour before sunset (around 7:30 PM), so selected families will need some flexibility with scheduling.

In exchange for your time, you'll receive the edited images from your session.

Please note that families selected must be comfortable with:

• Me using the images on my website, social media, emails, advertisements, and other marketing materials
• Being filmed during the session, as I'll be capturing behind-the-scenes video content that will be used for marketing purposes
• Signing a model release
• What to wear guidance will be provided!

I'm ideally looking for families with two or more children who are approximately 13 years old and younger.

If you've been wanting updated family photos but don't need a full session, these might work great for you!

Petite Sessions are a shorter, more relaxed option designed for busy families, little ones with short attention spans, to ensure you have photos for holiday cards early, or if you're not quite ready to commit to a full session, but would still love updated photos!

These are open from July through October 2026 at a choice of 3 locations this year:
•My backyard field
•Knox Farm
•Main Street in East Aurora
