2/2 from Carly & Dyer’s fall micro wedding at the Grand Adirondack Hotel in Lake Placid, NY!

If you know much about me, you know I love riding bikes. But I’m also a fan! World tour cycling is steadily streaming on my second monitor in my office throughout the spring and summer, as it makes the perfect background noise while editing photos. If you also follow cycling, you know one of the all time epic races, Paris Roubaix, was last weekend, and that one of cycling’s most beloved figures, Wout Van Aert, took the title in a sprint to the finish against the world champ. It was an instant classic. In the days since the race ended, something unexpected kept happening though - these mashup videos featuring reactions to Wout’s win kept surfacing on social media. People from all over the world, from commentators calling the race, to fellow cyclists and fans alike, folks just screaming with joy and then promptly and unexpectedly bursting in to tears of happiness for this cyclist. It was really beautiful and heart warming, felt like real a win for the good guys, much like a Masters win for Rory does. I do have a point here…

The thing that stuck out about Carly and Dyer’s wedding wasn’t just the stunning fall Adirondack scenery, the cozy Lake Placid Hotel, or all the beautiful people present. Rather it was the way all these humans looked at Carly and Dyer, the kind words they shared, the happy tears they shed for them. You could FEEL how invested these folks were in the lives and joy of this couple. It was so beautiful to witness and document, and such a testament to how meaningful micro weddings can be.

So with that, congrats to Carly and Dyer, both for your beautiful marriage, and for having the Wout Van Aert of weddings. 😆

On our first call about their wedding photography, Danielle, Brian and I immediately connected through our shared love of the Adirondack Mountains. We talked about making their engagement pictures with mountain vistas and their dogs, Marcy and Porter (aptly named after two of the Adirondack High Peaks). But we soon realized we had been chatting about wedding dates in two completely different years! I wasn’t going to be available for their date after all. I left Danielle and Brian in some of the most capable photographer hands I know, my friend Andy’s, and sulked over the missed opportunity. That turned out to not be the end for us though - Danielle and Brian decided they still wanted to meet me up in the Adirondacks for their engagement session, and they reached back out! I’m so, SO glad they did! We got to spend the most glorious July sunrise together in some of my favorite spots in the Adirondacks. Marcy and Porter were less enthused about the whole thing, but all in all just the most perfect morning doing what I love in a place that means so much. What a dream.

Part 2/2 - Sam + Steve’s wedding

There are certain weddings I leave feeling kinda like I finished an Ironman. Not from utter exhaustion, though maybe that’s a small part, but from the feeling of accomplishment. Bear with me on the analogy…

So here’s what happened - Sam and Steve meticulously planned their day to be filled with the most personal, sentimental, thoughtful moments from start to finish. They scheduled time for Sam to read a (tear filled) letter to each of her closest friends and family members. They scheduled time to give each other gifts and read each other letters. They scheduled a dance practice. Time for a walk on their favorite beach. Time for a private dance beneath their favorite tree which Steve strung with lights and set up a speaker for. Time to jump in the lake… all this extra little stuff that was distinctly theirs… ON TOP of all the regular wedding stuff, which, would be a lot in of itself.

And so the Ironman analogy, it’s like this… the years of training, the fitness, the nutrition, the mental game, you’ve got to have everything fine tuned to finish. As a photographer, that’s what wedding days are like. Things are moving fast. Highly emotional, super personal and important events are transpiring non-stop in the most unpredictable ways. You have to know your tech, your angles, your lighting. There are no breaks. There’s no regrouping. It’s happening and you’ve got to make the best possible picture, second after second, for an entire day.

And when it’s done? When all of that has been beautifully and lovingly documented to live with this one given couple for all their time? Whew… it feels REALLY satisfying. This night ended with one of my flashes in the lake, another run over by my car in the pitch black, Jess and I soaking wet in our dress clothes after straight up getting in Lake Erie for the end of the night shots and having a real good laugh about it all. And truly, it’s the best job, and an honor to do.

It was a moody fall afternoon in the foothills of the Adirondacks, and it was David and Nina’s elopement day. There was a fog, a mist, and a chill to the air… And with that atmosphere came the feeling of the pending winter slow down, the anticipation of cozy comforts. A warm fire, dim lighting, soft layers. The scene was set, and it was perfect.

From the moment I stepped out of my car at and began to walk the property with David to pick a wedding ceremony spot, to leaving the murmur of laughter and cocktails shaking in the distance just a couple hours later, this afternoon was filled with romantic warmth and contentment, and it was only made cozier by that unmistakable crisp Adirondack fall air.

I had “Internet known” David for years as a photographer himself. It’s always the greatest honor being chosen by one of your own to photograph their wedding. And I think my favorite memory of this day might have been David photographing Nina just before their parents joined us for the elopement ceremony. Seeing other people with our cameras is one of the greatest gifts we give, and I loved seeing how he saw her.

Here are some highlights from how I saw it all. More pictures on the blog. Enjoy!

Most weddings leave an imprint, an, “oh yes, the one when…” Adam and Tara’s wedding was for sure “the one when the term “flower cloud” first entered my vocabulary.” knocked it out of the park, installing the flower cloud both for the ceremony and reception, and the rest of the flowers were just delish too. But what I love most about the whole flower cloud situation, is that it totally set the tone for the couples vision for their wedding. They wanted a whimsical, playful vibe, and these colorful floral installations established the mood perfectly. Add to it lots of lawn games, a photo camper by , and perfect early summer weather? You’ve got the makings of a celebration as sweet as Adam and Tara’s love. 🧡🩷💜💙

On the moodiest of early spring days, Joe asked Rita to marry him in the mist of Letchworth State Park. The joy and excitement that radiated from these two during their proposal was nothing short of inspiring - one of those days I just feel super, super lucky to have the opportunity to witness and document such transformational moments in someone’s life.

Congrats to Joe and Rita on their engagement, and here’s wishing them the happiest wedding day and a lifetime more of memories as sweet as these. 💗
