“My birthday-present! It came to me on my birthday, my precious,” So he had always said to himself. But who knows how Gollum came by that present, ages ago in the old days when such rings were still at large in the world? Perhaps even the Master who ruled them could not have said. Gollum used to wear it at first, till it tired him; and then he kept it in a pouch next his skin, till it galled him; and now usually he hid it in a hole in the rock on his island, and was always going back to look at it. And still sometimes he put it on, when he could not bear to be parted from it any longer, or when he was very, very, hungry, and tired of fish.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

I also used amaran mini magnetic LEDs for fill light!

“As Frodo did so, he now saw fine lines, finer than the finest pen-strokes, running along the Ring, outside and inside: lines of fire that seemed to form the letters of a flowing script. They shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth.

‘I cannot read the fiery letters,’ said Frodo in a quavering voice.
‘No,’ said Gandalf, ‘but I can. The letters are Elvish, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Mordor, which I will not utter here. But this in the Common Tongue is what is said, close enough:
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“The riding figure sat quite still with its head bowed, as if listening. From inside the hood came a noise as of someone sniffing to catch an elusive scent; the head turned from side to side of the road.

A sudden unreasoning fear of discovery laid hold of Frodo, and he thought of his Ring. He hardly dared to breathe, and yet the desir

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.” - Bilbo Baggins, J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

This past weekend I shot a project a year plus in the making. My 17 person cast and I went to the region around Ithaca, NY and spent two full days shooting at some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been in the US. The days were long, the weather was hot and humid. But it was nothing short of magical. Everyone was so kind, talented, and incredibly willing to do whatever it took to breathe life into a tale we all love so dearly.

I decided to stay as true to Tolkien’s texts as possible so you’ll see that what we did is not quite like the movies (we did borrow some bits from them though, they’re so iconic and beloved)

I can’t wait to show you the final series but in the meantime, here’s a peek of the fellow ship leaving Lothlorien after meeting Galadriel.

Follow for the next installment coming soon…

There are a hundred places where I fear
To go,—so with his memory they brim.
And entering with relief some quiet place
Where never fell his foot or shone his face
I say, “There is no memory of him here!”
And so stand stricken, so remembering him.

To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it

against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go. - Mary Oliver

we will all miss you so much, sweet ivy. it isn’t fair.

I had the pleasure of staying at The Franklin on Rittenhouse | Philadelphia Boutique Hotel for my recent trip to Philadelphia. I lived in Philly for several years before moving to NYC, and it was such a lovely way to come back. The Franklin on Rittenhouse is a boutique hotel right in the quaint and historic Rittenhouse neighborhood. The street we stayed on was quiet and cobbled.

We were greeted by the lovely Paige and her little assistant Addison (swipe to the end for the BEST surprise) and then up we went to our room, The Dandy. Adorned in dandelion wallpaper, this room was perfect for me. It reminded me so much of Amelie’s whimsical tastes. The bathroom was spacious and had one of my favorites- Molton Brown USA. The design was thoughtful and everything was clean and cozy.

We also got to experience the amazing Franklin Mortgage and Investment Co. bar that is attached to the hotel. Matt Portillo knows his stuff about cocktails and he approved. Highyahvybez Highyahvybez crafted the “Mango Sticky Rice” cocktail to start for us, then I chose “SCOREBOARD, MOTHERPHOCKER” which looks like a bowl of pho and tastes like everything you’d want from a cocktail inspired by your favorite Vietnamese dish.

The whole experience was a delight and I hope to go visit again soon. 🤍

Last weekend I had the pleasure of staying at The Franklin on Rittenhouse | Philadelphia Boutique Hotel in ‘The Dandy’ room. It’s covered in painterly dandelion wallpaper. While all their rooms are beautiful, this one felt perfect for me.

In the movie Amelie, her wallpaper is red, but I was instantly reminded of the iconic movie poster greens. The cozy room transported me back to my high school days when that was absolutely my favorite movie. It still is up there. Amelie would love the whimsical nature of The Franklin on Rittenhouse as much as I did.

Thank you so much to the lovely staff there! It was a magical stay!
