Rewinding for a moment to almost two years ago exactly - a lot of us were pretty anxious to come out of the first of our covid quarantines and we were excited for some of the things we missed to open back up to the public again. of fame approached me with a great idea to help announce their new cleaning and covid safety procedures, as well as their *fingers crossed* new opening dates. The concept, heavily influenced by .cg ’s inspiring work (and Nighthawks), would show the gyms with an enticing light emanating from the windows and entryways. We had some unique challenges, not the least of which was that the 12th and Market location(s) was a bit damaged the night before our shoot during the civil unrest of that summer. I teamed up with .cornelius to help with the post production and he knocked it out of the park. Also thanks to for the assist !

Waaaaayyyy back in June of 2020, when we were all just beginning to figure out how to produce shoots in the middle of a global pandemic, I had the opportunity to photograph a couple of great friends for a very famous large multinational bank known for, among other things, being an early financier of major Hollywood films. This was one of those early shoots where instead of reaching out to casting directors and professional talent, we submitted photos of our friends and their real families. In this case we were shooting an ad for a first time homebuyer program and I submitted photos of a few of my friends, families, and their homes. David, Beth and Cam were selected and we got to work photographing them at their first house on Iseminger Street. ( Shot out to 1900 S. Iseminger for being a cool neighborly block with a great block party ) The needs for the ad were pretty straightforward, just a portrait of a family in front of their home - BUT we had no idea what format the final image would end up in. Our solution? We created a giant 135mp panoramic image in every direction so that there will be limitless crop options. Big thanks to the crew - for producing, for figuring out how to manage a zoom call with the agency and client watching our feed from the middle of the street. Also thanks to for the assist, and to .cornelius for stitching all the many images together and keeping all the bricks nice and straight.

I was saddened to hear that the sugar maple tree with a stunning view of the skyline is ill and will be taken down this year. The tree was likely planted over 100 years ago as a tribute to World War 1 veterans and has been apart of many people’s memories since. I’ve made a few photographs at this location over the past 15 years; this one, my favorite, was created 3 years ago for

I’m thrilled to share this most recent cover of Philly Mag, one of my personal favorite covers I’ve shot to date. Back in September I had the opportunity to photograph several of this year’s most influential Philadelphians. I love making portraits of people with interesting stories to tell and these subjects certainly fit that description and then some. Here are a few of my favorites. Thanks to and for the assignment and for selecting this image for the cover. Also big thanks to and for the assists and to .cornelius for retouching on the images that were published.

Congrats to .bagels.poetry on the well deserved spot on the 2021 favorite restaurants in America list. I photographed Philip Korshak back in June for his inclusion in this year’s Best of Philly issue. Since that time this neighborhood spot has become a go to spot for and me (and seemingly everyone else in East Passyunk) when we are craving bagels. Philip and his team of bagel mongers do such an incredible job it can be hard to describe. If it sounds like everyone is creating unattainable expectations, you owe it to yourself to go and see what the stir is all about.

This is Justin Becker. Anyone that knows Justin knows that he’s one of the most genuinely nice, caring and funny people you will ever meet. Justin and I have been friends since our Freshman year in college when we used to get in trouble by the RA for forgetting to close the dorm room door in Johnson Hall while drinking 40s and playing Mario Kart 64. These days we don’t drink large malt beverages anymore, and Justin’s son could probably beat us in Mario Kart, but not much else has changed. It was a real pleasure to get Justin some last minute headshots for him as he pursues Master’s in Special Education.

New work for Builder Magazine. Back in March I had the chance to travel down to Reston, VA to photograph Builder Magazine’s Builder of the Year, Steve Alloy, President and CEO of Stanley Martin. This was actually Steve’s second time on the cover (the first was in 2007) so I felt some pressure to compete with the earlier cover photo. made the trip down to DC the night before and helped assist and tech the shoot for me. We decided to shoot most of the portraits against a grey seamless in their cafeteria using an absurd ring flash modifier called a “moon unit.” I suppose an absurd modifier deserves an absurd name. When using this device the subject cannot see me behind the camera so I need to do my best to give direction using only my voice. (BTS proof in the last frame) Steve was a professional in front of the camera and did not seem phased. As always a huge thank you to for bringing me on to do this shoot for you yet again, and to for doing an amazing job retouching the images and delivering beautifully layered files. 📷:

Last week I flew to Albuquerque, New Mexico to continue my work with Meals On Wheels America. I met with 4 seniors who all came to Meals on Wheels in the last year because of how they were impacted by Covid-19. This was a really short out and back trip, so I got lucky with a beautiful weather day and some great subjects. Big thanks to Carl, Roberto, Tillie and Harold for opening your door to me and allowing me to meet and photograph you. I’m doing a fundraiser with this post. If we can raise $150 for , I’ll match the donation up to $250.

Last month I had the chance to meet Six Philly families who moved during the pandemic. It was a real pleasure to be asked to photograph these families in their beautiful homes. I’d like to thank and for the trust and opportunity to make more of my favorite kind of photo - a portrait that is equally about the subject and their space. Also, big thanks to and for assisting me on these shoots, and .cornelius for the retouching work. But biggest thanks of all go to all of the incredibly gracious subjects who were open to inviting us into their space, and were so giving of their time. Congrats to all of you on your new homes. Thanks to for rushing to make your brand new home photoshoot fresh for us. To and , looking forward to grabbing birria tacos and beers with you when the pandy is over. and thank you for braving the rain (sleet?) and raising the bar for onset lunch to impossible new heights. and thank you for the toddler that resulted in my favorite portrait and happy accident from the series (also thanks for letting me move the Emmy into frame) ! and , thank you for bringing the effortlessly cool wardrobe and the very photogenic cat. And thanks for showing us your gorgeous library and chatting about all of the amazing food to explore in Philadelphia.
