Downy woodpeckers are among the smallest woodpeckers. The bright red spot on the head denotes that this one is a male. Females don't have one such spot. Note the toes, they are really large relative to the body that allows them to hitch on the trees very effectively and in weird positions.

From the earliest days of humanity, we are intrigued by birds. So much so that we drew inspiration from them and made aeroplane. But birds are so much more than just flying fluff balls. They are cute, intelligent, and ferocious. Watching birds may even have therapeutic effects on human minds. Unfortunately, decline in the number of birds is real and threats the very balance of nature.
The purpose of this page is to enjoy what I enjoy the most, photographing birds. I hope you enjoy the images, but I also sincerely hope that these images and posts will spread awareness about the importance of our feathered friends in our life and nature in general.
