GASP!

Have you seen the September issue of Brookfield City Lifestyle yet? It's the Style Issue and it's safe to say that I'm completely in love with this cover. 💍

Just look at that sparkle! These rings are stunning enough on their own, but stacked together like that with the light catching every stone? I could drool over this, I mean, stare at this all day.

There's a lot more of my work inside this one too, so don't stop at the cover.

This is Howden's headshot day back in January, and yes, that is a puppy parked right in the middle of my setup.

She belongs to Andrew and came along for the day, and she spent his whole session lying between my light stands watching him. Never moved, never made a peep, just kept her eyes on her person the entire time. Good girl.

Then she got scooped up and photographed too. She got her own solo portrait as well, because obviously.

And here's the funny part: this was not the last time I've photographed an office dog. If they show up, they get included. 🐶

I may be in the minority here, but this wasn't as good as I had hoped. Cute, fun, will-they-won't-they.... turned into OMG just talk to each other already! Jeesh. (The movie wasn't much better.)

Are you on my newsletter yet?

(If you had to think about it...that's a no. Let's fix it.)

Once a month, one email, all the good stuff. Session tips you'll actually use, senior and family news, first word when the calendar opens up, and a few things I only share with my inbox people.

No algorithm deciding whether you see me. Just me, landing in your inbox, worth a cup of coffee.

Link's in my bio. Let's stay in touch.

More from the August issue of Brookfield City Lifestyle Magazine! The cover was just one photo from this assignment, and I got to spend a morning out at the farm with this lovely family and their entire crew of animals.

There were cats on the porch, chickens everywhere, a goat who clearly runs the place, and a baby lamb who has apparently decided he lives indoors now. (That's him standing in the living room like he pays rent.) Every single kid out there has a favorite, and you can tell immediately which animal belongs to which person.

Grab the August issue to read the whole story.

This little corner is where that team photo came from!

Elm Grove Travel put me in a conference room with one clear wall and a TV that nobody was watching, and the staff all walked through one at a time. Every one of them came out on a clean white background looking like they'd been in a studio.

Small spaces are the norm around here, not the exception, because most offices don't have a spare gymnasium sitting around. I really only need about eight feet and an outlet, and I've made it work in break rooms, hallways, storage closets, and one memorable time, a stairwell landing.

So if you're looking around your office thinking there's nowhere to do this, there probably is. Send me a photo of the room and I'll tell you.

P.S. I was at their office back in January and again last month to photograph a few new people. Bet you can't tell which ones. That's the beauty of the Evergreen Team Photo.

I read this because it came up as available in the audio book app and also so I can watch the Netflix series. It was entertaining and funny at times and very well read by Ellie Fanning, who plays Margo in the show. My biggest frustration (outside of her rude friends, bad choice in boyfriends and awful mother) was determining if Margo truly was smarter than she seems or not. I still don't have the answer.

Every senior guy asks me some version of the same question. (Usually not out loud.)

"What am I supposed to do with my hands?"

Here's the answer: nothing. You don't have to figure that out. That's my job.

I'm not going to ask you to model. I'm going to say "walk toward me" and "lean on that" and "tell me about your season," and somewhere in there you'll stop thinking about the camera. Keep the outfit simple, layers and solid colors, nothing that yells louder than you do. Pick a spot that actually fits you.

And yes, the first five minutes are weird. For everybody. And then.... it's fine.

The last tip is the one I (really) care about. These photos aren't just for your mom (although she will cry, and she's earned it). This is who you were at seventeen. Your build, your hair, that grin you make when you think I'm paying attention. You will want that later, I promise.

Class of 2027, let's get you on the calendar.

PS: Moms, you can forward this to him. He'll say "ok." That's a yes.

Random facts about me, current edition!

📖 Last book I read:
The Push by Ashley Audrain. I finished it and then sat there for a minute.

📺 Recent watch:
Hacks. Every episode.

🍤 Good food:
the blackened shrimp at Murphy's on the Green in Green Lake. Worth the drive, and I'd go back tomorrow.

💻 Hot tech:
Granola. Takes notes for me so I can actually listen to the person talking.

✏️ Favorite product:
white out. Yes, still. Don't come for me.

Your turn! Tell me one of yours.
