Sharing my journey as I learn the tools and tricks of capturing landscapes and wildlife. Constellation Studios is more than just a place.

Constellation Studios is a company that is all about the love of sound. More than just a building. A constellation by definition is "a group or configuration of ideas, feelings, characteristics, objects, etc., that are related in some way". This is Constellation Studios at it's heart. Whatever your project, whatever your need, Constellation strives to offer you with the tools, talent, and time you need.

🌌 The best way to enhance astrophotography images is to use RC Astro’s Star Xterminator so you can process the sky background and stars separately. It allows you to bring out detail in the Milky Way without overcooking the stars.

🌌💡A little bit of cloning can preserve authenticity but still improve the edit. Just be careful to keep it looking believable!

Landscape astrophotography images are often a combination of sky and foreground. Tracked sky shots have blurry foregrounds. The only other solution is to align the sky to hide the blurry edge. This doesn’t work when your subject protrudes into the sky like trees. Cloning out the viable blurred section solves this issue!

You won’t need it, I promise.

🖼️ 🤔💡Have you ever tried matting your own images? I found the sizing complicated. Thankfully Matboard.com made it pretty easy to get show kits with custom-cut opening sizes to accommodate the different aspect ratios of my photography.

🖼️ 🤩 I never thought I’d get this excited about a frame. I originally learned of Homeforia | Elevate Your Space from another photographer’s YouTube. I was looking for a cost-effective but quality frame for my photography—both to sell and to have at home. They look great. They’re much higher quality than box store options. They don’t break the bank like custom ordered frames. Link in my bio. Check it out.

I’ve been dreaming of this shot for over a year. It finally happened. I arrived just in time for some blue hour foreground shots. Then I waited for the sky to line up. I opted for a 50mm focal length because of how the foreground was working and where I could stand.

Capturing the night sky and epic mountains with a 50mm lens changes the feel. It “compresses” the scene and makes the trees, mountains, and sky look much “closer” together.

Do you like the original square or 4x5 crop better?

📷🖨️🖼️ Steps for proofing photos for print:
1. Soft proof: use paper emulation (ICC profiles) to emulate the look/behavior of paper to get an edit close.
2. Hard proof multiple images on a contact sheet to maximize physical paper. I usually make more adjustments to the edit once I see how it actually prints.
3. Larger scale hard proofing with just one image. Some things stand out more once they’re enlarged.

Different photo paper has different characteristics so it’s important to find what works best for each paper!

📷🌌 Turns out astrophotography is my specialty. It started with taking pictures of stars with my phone. Then I got a mirrorless camera. Then I got a star tracker. Then I got a better camera… and I’m just getting started!
