Tonight at the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture, join us as we wrap up Season Eleven with our biggest event of the year and the Bozeman premiere of the brand new, award-winning documentary, Nuisance Bear.

Winner of the 2026 Sundance Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Documentary, Nuisance Bear is a powerfully moving and visually striking examination of the relationship between humankind and nature. A polar bear is forced to navigate a human world of tourists, wildlife officers, and hunters as its ancient migration collides with modern life. When a sacred predator is branded a nuisance, it becomes unclear who truly belongs in this shared landscape.

The film will start at 7pm and be preceded at 6pm by a reception in the Emerson ballroom featuring food, drink and info from event sponsors and the annual Bozeman Doc Series silent auction with items from sponsors such as Red Tractor Pizza, Whole and Nourished Meal Delivery, SHINE Beer Sanctuary + Bottle Shop, Kokoro Farm and many more.

Tickets are available at the door or before the show online at bozemandocseries.org

"This film tells an enormous story with great drama, beauty, and verve and powerfully confronts the realities of climate change, the tensions between Indigenous tradition and Western capitalist encroachment, and the complexities of humanity’s relationship with the natural world. It also features a standout sequence that is, like the film itself, humorous, terrifying, and unforgettable. Of all the documentaries we saw, this one was the least … polarizing." The Sundance festival jury on U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Documentary winner, Nuisance Bear.

Don't miss the film's Bozeman premiere tomorrow night - Thursday, April 23rd - at the Emerson Center for Arts and Culture at our annual Earth Day event. "In the snowy subarctic wilds of northern Manitoba, the Inuit have a word for polar bears who’ve lost their fear of being around humans: avinnaarjuk, or “nuisance bear.” That’s a rather sweet name for a hypercarnivorous, unpredictable apex predator that can weigh 1,500 pounds and outrun or outswim any human. But the documentary “Nuisance Bear,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, thrusts us so thoroughly into the bears’ perspective that it turns the whole notion of who is predator and who is prey completely on its head. This is no typical nature documentary. It’s an edge-of-your-seat thriller that plays out like “The Fugitive.” The Washington Post
