Fun with Photoshop

I'm not usually one to do a lot of editing on my photos - cropping, noise reduction, and a bit of light adjustment is about it. But sometimes it can be fun to play around. In this case, I actually think I like the result better than the original. What do you think?

🖼️Framing a photograph is about more than just aesthetics. Proper framing preserves art and protects it from things like dust, light, and critters.

💸It's also expensive.

👩‍🔧Learning to frame my own work has not only brought me tremendous personal satisfaction; it also helps me to keep my costs down, which means I can sell my framed photos for a lot less.

👉In fact, two of them will be for sale alongside works from some really talented photographers at the upcoming 2026 Voices for the Marsh Juried Photo Exhibition.

🤔Curious to know which ones made the cut? Drop by the exhibit opening reception this Sunday, June 14, from 2 to 4 pm. Can't make it? No problem! The show runs through August 23.

A smart pair of Killdeer built their nest in tall grass inside a chain-link fence. It may have protected their babies, but it made them a challenge to photograph. This is the best I got. First time seeing Killdeer babies, though!

I don't know why I've always struggled to get good photos of a Blue Grosbeak. They always seem to be too far away, or hiding behind leaves, or in bad lighting. But it looks like today was finally my day! How handsome is he? 😍

"They're digging in the wrong place!" - Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark

That's what went through my mind when I realized I'd been looking in all the wrong places for a Yellow-throated Vireo. Once I found out where to look, it was easy to convince one to pose for some photos. But it makes me wonder what they like about these particular woods over the others nearby.

The Hooded Merganser is by far the cutest of the three merganser species that spend the winter in NJ. So how cool is it that this momma decided to stick around and raise her twelve(!!) babies here? Maybe she stayed for the all-you-can-eat crayfish.

If you live in South Jersey and you've never been to the Ocean City Welcome Center, it's definitely worth a visit. It's a popular nesting site for Great Egrets, Night Herons, Snowy Egrets, and Ibis, and this time of year you can see them raising their young.
