Film friends are absolutely unparalleled. normal friendship doesn’t even stand a chance.

Lets work 12 hour days together without pay to make someones vision come to life.

Lets pull multiple all nighters to shoot a scifi short film.

Lets drive three hours to that sick location.

Lets build a set for two weeks in your garage.

Let me smash a sugar bottle over your head four times.

Lets all survive on granola bars and energy drinks for three days.
The film life is a strange one but i tell you what i’ve gotten my favorite people out of this journey.

Nothing will get you on my blacklist faster.

I tend to direct a lot of drama and horror, and within those genres are really intense scenes that demand a lot of an actor. Being incredibly vulnerable and emotionally available on set is extremely hard. I can’t stand a crew member who’s trying to “lighten the mood” by making jokes at an inappropriate time.

As a director i try my best to create a safe space where actors can go where they need to go and stay in it without interruption. Crew should not be talking with actors between takes when they’re in a tough head space. Crew should not be cracking jokes or writing something goofy on the slate in those moments. Nothing will make me not want to work with someone faster than being disrespectful of an actor giving something their all.
