Rebersburg PA – 1937 – Post 3 – Diary of Harry Ziegler (1893-1989)…

In 1937, Harry Ziegler will turn 44 years old. He is the son of William Ziegler and Minerva Zimmerman Ziegler. On June 28, 1919, Harry was elected to teach Rebersburg Grammar School in Rebersburg. In 1910, he married Alpha Maude Smull. Children are Clarence “Paul” born in 1911; Ruth Eleanor born in 1912; and Sarah Josephine born in 1920. In 1922. Harry’s family moved into a house at 155 East Main Street. The same year, Rebersburg received electricity. His parents live at 167 E. Main Street (later the home of Malcolm & Betty Yearick). Charles C. Smulll, Alpha’s parents lived at 155 Smullton Road (later the Aggie Wilcox farm.)

February 15, 1937 - Monday. Schools opened again after having been closed for four days. In school. Alpha came down stairs for supper only. Anna Miller returned from the Danville State Hospital.
February 16, 1937 - Tuesday. In school. Settled auction sale for Roy C. Arbogast - 1st night - amount $69.54.
February 17, 1937 - Wednesday. In school. To prayer meeting. Election of Cemetery Association. Trustees - was elected Secretary & Treasurer of said organization. H. S. Play "Silas Smidge from Turnip Ridge" was repeated in I.O.O.F. Hall. Alpha better, but doing very little work.
February 18, 1937 - Thursday. In school. Settled auction sale for Roy C. Arbogast – end night - amount $79.32.
February 19, 1937 - Friday. In school. To I.O.O.F. Fetched Ruth home in evening to do our washing tomorrow.
February 20, 1937 - Saturday. Clerked sale of J. R. Brungart Estate for W. J. Kreider, Ex. Home was bought by E. H. Hosterman for $3175.00 - total amount of sale was $10,313.08 plus.
February 21, 1937 - Sunday. To S. S. and a.m. services.
February 22, 1937 - Monday. Much snow fell last night. In school. Mrs. E. H. Hosterman, M. W. Breon, W. H. Ziegler, O. F. Stover and I went to Bellefonte after school to see Musser W. Gettig concerning the forming of a Cemetery Association.
February 23, 1937 - Tuesday. In school. Settled 3rd night of auction for Roy C. Arbogast - amount $66.90 - last night. Total for 3 nights of auction, $215.76.
February 24, 1937 - Wednesday. In school. To prayer meeting.
February 25, 1937 - Thursday. In school. Bot. of R. W. Bierly 2 pigs - 136 # and 97 # - total $24.30.
February 26, 1937 - Friday. In school. To I.O.O.F. Received typewriter stand from
Educational Supply Co. for $4.25 plus postage.
February 27, 1937 - Saturday. To J. N. Royer, Estate public sale by Mary Swartz. Farm sold to Vilas Wise; home to C. I. Grenoble; 8 A. land to T. F. Wise; 4 A. land to W. P. Fetterolf. To K.G.E. Minstrel in local I.O.O.F. Hall.
February 28, 1937 - Sunday. To S. S. Ruth's here for dinner and supper. Donald Meek here for supper. Preston and family called in p.m.
March 1, 1937 - Monday. In school. Invited to M. W. Breon's for supper - R. F. Harbach and family there also.
March 2, 1937 - Tuesday. In school.
March 3, 1937 - Wednesday. In school. To prayer meeting.
March 4, 1937 - Thursday. In school.
March 5, 1937 - Friday. In school. To I.O.O.F. - Third Degree given to Clarence Bierly and Albert McCaleb.
March 6, 1937 - Saturday. Cloudy - a very raw air from the east. Fixed up the new "spare" room.
March 7, 1937 - Sunday. To S. S. To Meek's in p.m. - took Ruth's along. To evening services - last sermon by W. L. Kamble before Conference which will convene at Lewistown next Thursday.
March 8, 1937 - Monday. In school. Public sale of W. F. Tyson at Wolfs Store - W. E. Minnig bought the farm for $2000.
March 9, 1937 - Tuesday. In school. To penmanship meeting in evening. Ira Brungart Estate had public sale of farm stock, etc. Wilbur Brungart bought the farm previously. Repaired spouting at N.W. Corner of house - bought supplies of G. P. Garrett:
