Rebersburg PA – 1941 – Post 7 – Diary of Harry Ziegler (1893-1989)…
In 1941, Harry Ziegler will turn 48 years old. He is the son of William Ziegler and Minerva Zimmerman Ziegler. On June 28, 1919, Harry was elected to teach Rebersburg Grammar School in Rebersburg. In 1910, he married Alpha Maude Smull. Children are Clarence “Paul” born in 1911, lived in Port Matilda; Ruth Eleanor (Swartz) born in 1912, lived in Millheim; and Sarah Josephine (Whitehill) born in 1920, lived in Pleasant Gap. In 1922. Harry’s family moved into a house at 155 East Main Street. The same year, Rebersburg received electricity. His parents live at 167 E. Main Street (later the home of Malcolm & Betty Yearick).
Alpha, his wife, died November 7, 1938. By 1940, their three children have their own homes.

May 21, 1941 - Wednesday. Roofed at S. A. Bierly's. To Milleim Show "Land of Liberty.”
May 22, 1941 - Thursday. A warm Ascension Day. Finished the work at S. A. Bierly's. Was out fishing in the evening, after a light shower at 4:00 p.m.
May 23, 1941 - Friday. Hung screens for Rager at Clintondale. To local H. S. Commencement exercises in Lutheran Church - 7 in class - A. D. Gougler from Middleburg was the speaker. My refrigerator was started today by Jason H Wolfe.
May 24, 1941 - Saturday. Worked around home all day. To Millheim Show "The Philadelphia Story." Our local ball team was defeated at "Gap," 8-4.
May 25, 1941 - Sunday. To S. S. and evening services. At Ruth's for dinner and then all at Paul's for supper. Memorial Services at Livonia in p.m.
May 26, 1941 - Monday. J. G. (Gurney) Smull and I began painting H. M. (Harry) Garrett's dwelling.
May 27, 1941 - Tuesday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's. Spent the evening around Miss. Kane's Summer Cottage (John Reish’s camp on Fox Gap Road.) Lee A. Vonada is renovating the I.O.O.F. Store Room which he recently rented. (Store Room was on 2nd floor of Store Building.)
May 28, 1941 - Wednesday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's. Mrs. E. R. Wolfe is in Lock Haven Hospital.
May 29, 1941 - Thursday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's. Our ball team was defeated at Centre Hall, 7-2.
May 30, 1941 - Friday. To a.m. Memorial Services here and same in evening at Aaronsburg - A. D. Gougler, speaker at both places - to Band Festival in evening. To ball game here in p.m. - Rebersburg 8 vs. Millheim 17.
May 31, 1941 - Saturday. To Millheim Show "Melody Ranch" and "Friendly Neighbors." Set most of late cabbage out and planted 2 rows of potatoes.
June 1, 1941 - Sunday. To S. S. and a.m. services. With mother for dinner. Preston's and Anna's there also. Sara' s here in p.m.
June 2, 1941 - Monday. Purchased for fishing: License - $1.65 #184052); Rod - $2.50 (Stanley); Reel - $.96 (Sears); Line - $.74 (Sears); Boots - $4.50 (Nieman's). To Cole Brothers Circus at Lock Haven in evening. Our ball team was defeated at Lemont, 3-1.
June 3, 1941 - Tuesday. Began second coat painting at H. M. Garrett's. Our ball team defeated Lamar here 7-1 - Donald Heck suffered a fractured fore arm at home plate. (Donald Heck was a hired man on Gramley Farm at 164 Fox Gap Road.)
June 4, 1941 - Wednesday. To Aaronsburg in a.m. Bot. of Ray B. Stover 2 1/4 T. Nut Coal - $18.00.
June 5, 1941 - Thursday. Spent most of the day fishing - no catch.
June 6, 1941 - Friday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's. To Millheim Barber Shop in evening.
June 7, 1941 - Saturday. Spent the day in Hershey visiting the Rose Garden, Industrial School, Park, Zoo, Museum, etc. Went to Harrisburg for the night - saw "I Wanted Wings" at the Capital Theater. Roomed with Mrs. Larkin at 303 S. Front Street, a Tourist Home. Milesburg B.B. Team was defeated here 5-1.
June 8, 1941 - Sunday. Spent most of the day in Hershey Park - returned home at 8:30 p.m. - had a nice trip.
June 9, 1941 - Monday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's. Our B.B. Team defeated Spring Mills away 5-0.
June 10, 1941 - Tuesday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's. To Millheim Show "Adam Had Four Sons."
June 11, 1941 - Wednesday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's - finished the house and started at the barn. To wiener roast in evening north of town.
June 12, 1941 - Thursday. Painted at H. M. Garrett's in the morning. Ball game here with Pine Grove Mills - we won 4-3.
June 13, 1941 - Friday. Did some fishing in evening in Millheim Narrows and at W. E. Minnig's.
