When Julia and I planned this session, we wanted the photos to feel like an extension of her: creative, thoughtful, playful, professional, and connected to the people she serves.

Julia is the founder/owner of .marvelous.spark where she supports education, wellness, kid-friendly, and nature-based businesses/organizations through branding, marketing, consulting, and creative community work. Her business has lots of layers so the goal became “how do we show it visually?”

We knew we needed a few headshots and laptop photos but also wanted pieces that truly captured her essence.

Things like: time at her office desk, sketchbooks, watercolor, a visit to one of her fave local coffee spots and of course, hula hooping!

I’m glad it all came together! Not just ‘good photos’ but photos that help people understand who she is before inquiring.

If you’ve ever worked with Julia then you know she is hard-working, professional, and gets things done. Yet also warm, open-minded, fun, and inclusive!

And she’s a great connector/networker too. She enjoys it and it comes so natural to her! Within a year of moving to Bel Air, Maryland, she coordinated a large wellness event, bringing together so many wellness and kid-friendly businesses in our community! Performances included. Needless to say, I was impressed.

She also partners with organizations to provide executive and leadership-level training that brings awareness and change into professional spaces.

She knew she wanted to show up as powerful, grounded, and trustworthy while still feeling warm and inviting.

So we built everything around that! The perfect minimal studio , on-brand outfits, and posing that balanced strength with approachability.

New Brand Design with updated Logo & Brand Colors!🙌🥳

Julia Capallo from .marvelous.spark completely nailed it! I was so impressed with her design process from brand questionnaire to consultation to mood board and beyond!

I loved getting a peek into her creative process. She truly wanted to understand my story, what drives my business, who I’m trying to serve, and where it all began.

For the colors, I’ve always been drawn to moody jewel-tones and shades of blue’ish turquoise so I LOVE the color scheme she came up with!🙌

For the logo and fonts, I wanted a design I could ‘grow into’…that felt a little sophisticated and luxurious but also incorporated my deep roots to the eastern shore beaches where I grew up. It’s where I go to reset, reconnect, reflect, and recharge😅. So it felt important to include a shore symbol—and what better symbol than a beautiful shell.

But the design doesn’t stop there! Inspired by my questionnaire responses, Julia shared how her shell design has symbolism as well. The pearl symbolizes transformation through adversity, which she knows I’ve experienced as a business owner, along with my clients. The pearl also represents the “heart” of the business-internal aspects that make it valuable/unique.

The shell lines going in and out from the pearl have a 2-way symbolism. The lines going in represent multiple aspects of my clients/their business being brought inwards and centered through their photoshoot. The lines going outward represent the many facets of my clients/their business being expressed and shown to their ideal clients through their brand sessions.

It’s incredible how she can visually represent these deeper concepts through her art and design! I highly recommend working with Julia if you’re ready for a Brand design refresh!✨

I’m about to ‘spill the tea’ on planning my own Brand photoshoot🫖😄

There were definitely some “Do as I say, not as I do” moments. For example…

🔸I bought my outfits BEFORE I decided to hire a brand designer to update my brand colors/logo (coming soon😉). So I def recommend knowing your brand colors before you buy your outfits😅.

🔸I was originally planning to do my own hair/make-up…then fairly last-minute decided to call in the experts (luckily they were able to squeeze me in). And I’m SO glad I did! It was so nice to get pampered the day-of the shoot and not have to stress about that. And of course I loved how it all turned out! Thank you and at for all the glam!✨

🔸Regarding props, I had a decent plan but the day before, decided I really wanted a conch shell (for storytelling purposes) so I was running around craft stores looking for a conch shell, with no luck. I ended up ordering one online with 1-day shipping that came 2 days late so no conch shell for the shoot.

The Baltimore studio rental was superb! It perfectly fit the eclectic, moody, luxe style I was hoping for.

And last but NOT least, I was working with who’s all-around incredible! She’s an excellent wedding photographer who puts her heart and soul into her work👌🫶. Not to mention, a great friend. When we discovered we lived 5 mins from each other at a business event 40 mins away, I was glad. But when I discovered we naturally get along really well and both love a good adventure, I was thrilled!😄

So lotsa morals to the story but the main one is that you can get plenty of great shots without your conch shell prop😋…so don’t sweat the small stuff if you forget anything😊
