Hey Folks. We’ve just released a new video, When Their Music Hall Washed Away, This Mountain Town Kept Playing. The Old Depot in Marshall, NC.on our YouTube channel, The Face of Appalachia, and hope you’ll take a look. It’s about the Marshall Depot music venue that got washed away by Helene and has been moved to a new location in Madison County, Maylon’s Twist Again Dance Barn.
For years, Friday nights at the Depot were about much more than music. Neighbors gathered, local musicians took the stage, visitors became friends, and everyone was welcome. Then Hurricane Helene came through Marshall and washed the Depot away. We visit with Pat Franklin, who worked to help make the Depot such an important part of the community and has helped keep it going after the flood.
Today the music events are held on Saturday nights at Maylon’s Twist Again Dance Barn, where local musicians, dancers, friends, and neighbors gather. This story is about music, community, friendship, resilience, and people refusing to let something they love simply disappear. I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch and spread the word about this remarkable Madison County tradition.
