Who is Júlio Aires?

Júlio Aires was born in Viseu, Portugal, and his interest in the arts and culture took root at an early age. He consolidated his technical and theoretical foundations at the Cooperativa Árvore and, subsequently, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), where he studied Communication Design.
Throughout his career, he has undertaken numerous design projects, an experience which has refined his aesthetic vision and visual sensibility. This natural evolution culminated in a full commitment to photography, a discipline he perfected at the Portuguese Institute of Photography (IPF).
Currently, he focuses his work on personal projects, whilst maintaining an active presence on the art scene through solo and group exhibitions. His work continually explores the intersection between the rigour of graphic design and the expressiveness of photography. His career includes more than forty solo and group exhibitions in which he has participated, and he has already published eleven photography books.

Roy, nasceu e vive na Índia é um dos membros do júri do MIRA Mobile Prize together with Armineh Hovanesian, Sukru Mehmet Omur and Júlio Aires. Quem é o Roy?

HIMANSHU ROY

Roy from India is a member of MIRA Mobile Prize together with Armineh, Sukru and Julio. Who is he?

Himanshu Roy is a self-taught photographer whose work has received recognition across international photography platforms. Rooted in the chaos and calm of everyday life, his visual storytelling captures raw, authentic, and aesthetic moments—created entirely with a phone.
What began in 2012 as a spontaneous desire to document the world around him has evolved into an ongoing journey of creative exploration. From narrow alleyways and bustling bazaars to quiet corners filled with character, Roy finds beauty in the overlooked and transforms fleeting moments into compelling visual stories. Every image is captured, refined, and shaped directly on the phone—no DSLR, no excuses.
Roy takes complete creative ownership of every photograph, from the initial observation and capture to the final post-processing. His signature approach combines instinct, patience, and minimalist composition, resulting in images that feel spontaneous yet deliberate, intimate yet striking.
His work has won awards in various international competitions. He was the winner of the MIRA Mobile Prize for Street Photography (B&W) in 2020.
