Together with our friends at Flint, we’re inviting emerging and practicing photographers to submit a 3minute slide show. Keep it simple:

☕ Kombi Brew keeping everyone caffeinated out of their kombi van. Come for the coffee, stay for the people-watching.

“Kombi Brew is a mobile cold brew coffee shop run out of Kahel, a 1973 Volkswagen Type 2 van that owner Budz Badua inherited from her grandfather. Before running Kombi Brew, Badua worked as a wedding and commercial photographer. She started serving coffee at Volkswagen club events in 2017, then turned it into a full-time coffee shop during the pandemic.

Every drink on the menu is named after the van itself, with the signature Kahel Brew leading the lineup. It’s coffee with a story, served wherever the van parks next.”

📷 Box Camera PH with Jovel Lorenzo, known for his portrait work using the century-old street box camera, will be onsite and ready to take your photograph. Watch him turn a single shot into a wet print, right there on the spot.

“Jovel Lorenzo is a Filipino photographer and the founder of BoxCamera.PH. During the pandemic, he rediscovered his passion for analogue photography after encountering the traditional street box camera. With limited resources due to lockdown, he built his own functional box camera entirely from scratch — measuring, sawing wood, and crafting the mechanism by hand.

As a dedicated street box camera photographer, his main medium is silver gelatin photo paper, which he has honed to use for both negatives and positives throughout his journey. He fell in love with its unique process as both a camera and darkroom in one, capable of producing instant, poignant prints. As a practicing street box camera photographer, Jovel hopes to make this his legacy and inspire a new generation of young Filipinos to discover and continue this rare craft.”

📚 Fotobaryo is the community darkroom, library, and education center co-located at Shutterspace Studios.

“FOTO BARYO is the vision of Fernando “Bobit” Afable, who hails from Tanauan, Batangas. His years at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York inspired him to share the exhilaration of creating photographs in the Philippines.

In 2001, one 40-foot container van filled with 15 years worth of effort and hard-earned savings, made its way to the Philippines. All in all, around 100 balikbayan boxes of photographic equipment, donated from personal collections and educational institutions such as the International Center of Photography, found a home in Tanauan.

“Foto Baryo was born out of sharing” says Fernando.

“For years, I would spend holidays and after-work hours going around the city, collecting boxes of equipment and hauling them back to my apartment,” describes Fernando. “All of these things were considered junk, yet in the Philippines, they could still help a lot of people.””
