No flag? Foggy mess.
Flag it? Clean edge.

Backlight first. Shape second.
Made this on a quiet gap between shoots.

Most people think colour gels don’t work.

They do… your lighting is just too even.

I’m using a blue gel and a CTO (orange) gel here.

But here’s the key:
You only see that colour in the shadows.

If you light everything evenly, the colours disappear.

So instead of flattening the light, let one side fall off.
Then push colour into that shadow.

Quick tip:
Turn each light on one at a time.
Make sure there’s actually shadow before adding the gels.
