An ad tells you a business is good. A recommendation from someone you trust proves it.

When someone you trust recommends a business, thereโ€™s already a layer of credibility behind that introduction.

That's the whole reason the Ripple works, it's not paid promotion, it's one business owner vouching for another, and people can feel the difference.

Be the business people are happy to recommend. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

True story: in 2022 I was heartbroken.

Not the dramatic kind (well slightly dramatic). The kind where you realise something you used to love is now something your body can't keep doing. Weddings had been my world for over a decade. But the physical toll had built up, and the joy wasn't there the way it used to. So I did the thing: I admitted it wasn't working anymore, and started looking for what could work...

I wanted something with recurring revenue. Something I could grow. Something I was already kinda good at. Marketing ticked all three, so I signed up for a course, did it online, and promptly got smacked with a horror run of sinusitis for the whole thing. Pain, brain fog, deadlines. Ten out of ten, would not recommend, learned a stack anyway.

Not long after, I bought what was then Snap Websites, a small hosting and web business, and brought over its 60-80ish clients. Christopher, their longtime developer, came with it. For a while it was just me, slowly building the marketing side, learning as I went. Feeling totally clueless, but backing myself anyway.

Last year Ai put the sh*ts up me, and I got real serious. I wasn't going to let a robot steal my dream. So weeks of research, months of untangling what made Snap different from every other agency, and Ai saying it could do everything. Turns out the answer was uncomfortable and obvious: I'd build my business to run exactly like I do. Hands-on, a bit relentless, genuinely invested helping my clients win.

I still catch myself worrying that talking about the work sounds like tooting my own horn. But if there's one thing worth passing on, it's this: nobody hands you clarity. You dig for it, usually while struggling, often the hard way. And once you figure it out, you work really hard to make it real.

Worth it..!

I grew up here, moved away, and came back two years ago to build Snap in the town that raised me.

There's something different about doing this work for people you know, who you'll run into at the supermarket, in a place you love. It keeps you connected, and it keeps it personal.

Current status: fighting off a sore throat one lemon and honey drink at a time, Freya doing her best foot warmer impression, and a cardigan situation that says "I have fully accepted I'm 50 now" ๐Ÿ˜‚

On screen behind me: website reveal #1 of 4 coming your way soon. In my head: about 500 tabs open, one of which just says "14 pages of SEO next, don't panic."

This is what "working from home" looks like some days. Cold drink, busy brain, cardigan doing the heavy lifting.

Easy as. No sweat ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dessert Before Dinner ~ Marketing event at my dinner table.

Sometimes life is tough. Running a business is tough. And sometimes you need your dessert before your dinner!

You want to feel the good stuff first. So that's what I'm building: an afternoon where you get to feel the good stuff, share the good stuff, learn the good stuff, and embrace the good stuff.

Come sit down, kick your shoes off. Swap stories, have a laugh, walk away with more than you came in with.

Here's what's on the 'dinner' table:

- Learn to build a basic AI content calendar that works for you
- Simple ways to build brand recognition in a busy landscape, so you stand out from the noise
- Marketing advice you probably haven't thought of yet (that's kind of my whole thing)
- A small group of like-minded women (up to 5) who get the struggle, not just polite small talk
- Early access to Grow Your Biz, Snap's resource for women building their business, before it's officially out

90 minutes. $147 introductory price. Nibbles supplied, obviously starting with the sweet stuff.

Small group, home setting, come as you are.

P.s I put lippy on for this photo, so I am expecting big things ๐Ÿ˜œ

End of September-ish, TBC. Register your interest now via PM.

Flipping through last year's journal... because when goals get cloudy and energy gets low one of the best things you can do is to see how far you've come. ๐Ÿ““

I wrote...
"I have a dream to help people."
"I can do anything I set my mind too."
"I will transform my life."

Turns out the highest-performing people in history all have one thing in common: their thinking. There's a pattern to success, apparently, and it starts with noticing what you're noticing.

My secret formula to success. I kept showing up, kept noticing the self-defeating thoughts and showed up despite them, eventually they quitened down, because I proved them wrong. I started thinking bigger, better, I kept doing the work in between. Lots of work.

Turns out the dream journal wasn't just cute. It's a blueprint. A blueprint I can turn into a resource to help you.

Sorry, no feature this week!

The business I had lined up wasn't quite ready to be the centre of attention. Not everyone wants the spotlight, and that's okay. We have a whole bunch of anonymous 'superheroes' doing great things, but that is a story for another day.

Truth is, I've been feeling a bit drained. And I think that's worth talking about, because every business owner knows this moment (we dread it, right?) You do your best work when your energy's high, but nobody can run on that forever. Eventually you hit a wall, figure out what's going on, make a bit of a plan to recalibrate, maybe eat 3 chocolate bars, have a cry, reach out to your emotional support buddy. Then we put our big pants on, and we carry on. Because if we stop, so do our businesses (no pressure๐Ÿ˜œ).

That's not necessarily a low point. It's just business. The reset is as much a part of it as the hustle is. But not all of us have an amazing support network or know how to ask for help, patience, or understanding. That is a Hard and lonely place to be.

The thing that's made the reset easier for me this time. ๐Œ๐ฒ ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž... (look out, I have claimed you!).

The businesses our Ripple has connected me with are some of the most aligned people I've met, and I don't think I'd have found them any other way. Knowing there are people in our corner who genuinely get it, that makes recalibrating feel a lot less like failing and a lot more like just what we do...

I don't think there is any shame in owning that and talking about it. But you know, Kiwi pride...

Owning a business is hard. Look at what we've all been through in the last six years, and we're still here, still going. The world's changing fast, and I don't think this is a time to sit back and wait for it to get easier. We make the change ourselves. That takes bravery, and it's a lot easier to be brave when you've got people backing you.

Kindness is the thing I feel most strongly about. Small action, done together, adds up to something big.

Not to sell, not to vent, just to say something good. Comment below and tell us about a Motueka business that's made you smile lately, or made your week a bit easier. Let's fill this thread with the kind of energy we could all use more of.

Support each other. Support our town. Make a Ripple.
